After their respite for their beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys, the Oakland Raiders return to Camp Cable for further preparations to get ready for the 2009 season.

  • Jeff Garcia was excused from camp for "personal reasons." This is unexpected from a veteran of Garcia's caliber. With this absence combined with the calf injury that has kept him from practicing, it is beginning to become a question on whether he is perhaps ready to call it a career. Cable categorically rejected that idea.
  • Nnamdi Asomugha saw very limited repetitions today, after being lifted following the Cowboys' first drive. Nothing more than a precaution.
  • Nick Miller is lighting up the practice field. He is making a strong case for a spot on the final 53 man roster.
  • Chaz Schilens had a great practice as usual.
  • Terdell Sands is listed as day to day with a sore quad.
  • Tom Cable says that Darren McFadden is "close" to getting the starting job at running back and getting more than 20 touches a game.
  • Cable doesn't believe in designating a "number one" receiver. His philosophy is to let the receivers on the field make plays.
  • Nnamdi Asomugha feels that Chaz Schilens is going to have a break-out year, "Chaz just outworks everybody. He outworks every receiver that we have on the team and he's been like that since I met him. I talked to some guys on San Diego State, you know Akbar, I asked 'How was he then?' He said, 'From his junior to senior year he had the biggest jump of any player on the team just because of how hard he was working.' No one expected much out of him. But then that senior year he blew out to the scene. That's the same guy out here. He works all the time. When he drops a pass he's upset. He's fighting, he's feisty. He's going to help out. Guys here, we know him, or at least I know him, so we're just having fun. When we go out there, those guys don't know him. They don't know any of his tricks or anything he's trying to do so I like it. He's a hard worker."

Wow... Chaz you continue to impress us all much to our delight knowing of the worries we had with the passing game for so long. I really want Walker, Higgins, Murphy, Schilens, Miller, Watkins: all to make that roster but I don't know, may the best men win...

Hey by the way, Terrence Newman and Mike Jenkins werent at that Cowboys game and I hope that even against them Schilens and the others can still put out the same performance.

Glad to hear that Nnamdi's limited play was just a precaution, without him we are in deep trouble. I think that all of Raider Nation is thrilled that we will see Chaz develop into an all pro and be with us as we first march towards playoffs, and then march towards Super Bowl. I know it is only preseason but the spirit of the team is awesome. Did you see how the entire team was estatic about congratulting Michael Huff after that great interception. I am hopeful that Huff continues to improve and wins his starting job back.I feel he has a lot more talent than Hiram Eugene. Go Raiders

Schilens is the man. I'm sure we've all seen it since last year, how talented and how much potential he has. And were just waiting for him to show it off, and he is and will continue to. But, the trait I like most about him is his attitude both on and off the field. He plays with a confidence, but is far from cocky. He is a hard worker and wears the number 81 with pride.

if you are someone getting talked about like that from Nnamdi, then that definitely means something. Chaz is gonna be a legit guy to have around. gives me chills watching him make them grabs wearing #81.

Too bad we are stacked at some positions and terribly thin at others. I agree with Umer, he wishes that all the receivers could make the team, and he didn't even include DHB. That can't happen. What do we do with Rankin? G. Russel? With two fullbacks and three tailbacks, they will not make the team. They say that Gracia will probably be around 1 year. It would be kind of a shame to loose out on Fry or Gradkowski Just so Garcia can hang out for a year. I'm having a hard time picking which linebackers I would want to stick. I wish we could trade our surplus of talent for o and d linemen. But I know that is way easier said than done.
