The end of the road came on Saturday night for the individuals who were participating in and/or watching an organized dog fight in Meriwether County.
As helicopters used a spot light to illuminate the area from above, the alleged criminals scattered...right into the hands of the officials who had surrounded them.
Two dogs were seized from a fighting pit, one with grievous wounds.
Meriwether Sheriff Chuck Smith stated:
Animal Control Officer Beth Miller advised that she was hopeful that the dog found in this pit could be saved. I'm appreciative to her for assisting us,
The raid also netted spectators, participants, two dogs used in the fight, weapons, 27 vehicles and thousands in cash; a catering truck from "Express Wings" was even in attendance to provide food for those attending the cruel, blood-sport.
According to Sheriff Smith, the individuals arrested were both local and from other states and they will be facing a multitude of charges including cruelty to animals, gambling, promotion of dog fighting, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and theft-by-receiving stolen property.
