Dallas-based filmmaker, Robert L. Camina, has invested the past two years of his life in producing, writing, editing, and directing a feature documentary entitled Raid of the Rainbow Lounge; its world premiere date is set for Thursday, March 15 at the AMC Palace 9 in Sundance Square in Fort Worth.
Camina had recently rolled off promoting his delightful musical comedy short, Martini The Movie, when the raid happened at the Rainbow Lounge; coincidentally, this raid occurred on the 40th anniversary of the raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York's Greenwich Village which was the incident that launched the modern gay rights movement.
As a Producer, I applaud Camina's ability to quickly jump into full blown production on this project. I was in the unique position to be chatting with him on a phone call the day after the raid and he was telling me how he was about to dash over to Fort Worth to cover a press conference regarding the raid. I inquired what he had in mind and he had replied that he wasn't sure yet but he felt compelled to document how this situation played out. As any filmmaker can appreciate, Camina literally began documenting the event aftermath as it was happening before him with no pre-production and no budget; he was simply in the heart of pure guerilla filmmaking.
Camina secured the assistance of the talented Emmy-nominated actress, Meredith Baxter, to narrate the documentary.
Some of the 30+ interviews include:
