It is being reported in the news that co-defendant in the Meredith Kercher murder case, Raffaele Sollecito has a list of ten reasons why he is innocent. This list pushes all of the blame for the murder onto Amanda Knox and Rudy Guede. Raffaele and his lawyers, Giulia Bongiorno and Luca Maori, are holding a press conference in Rome tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1, 2014, to announce his new defense strategy.
The list includes the fact that Amanda received a text message from Patrick Lumumba to not go to work on the night of the murder, November 1, 2007. Raffaele is expected to state that Amanda lied to him and told him that she was going to work and left for the evening. Raffaele subsequently spent a quiet night at home - alone when the murder took place.
Another reason Raffaele points the finger at Amanda Knox's involvement in the murder is the fact that in her memorial, Amanda stated that she was with Patrick Lumumba in the cottage when she covered her ears to block out Meredith's screams. Amanda never claimed Raffaele was there, because he wasn't, according to his defense team. They further reinforced Raffaele's innocence by reminding everyone that he never falsely accused anyone.
More points that Sollecito is expected to announce tomorrow are that Amanda and Meredith's DNA were found on the murder weapon, with no trace of himself. Also, the witness, Quintavalle, remembered seeing Amanda in the early morning of November 2, 2007, shortly after the murder, but made no mention of seeing Raffaele. Finally, Raffaele claims that he had no reason to rob Meredith of her rent money unlike perhaps Amanda and Rudy Guede.
Raffaele's defense is asking for a new, separate trial for their client. They would like the courts to consider the former lovers separately. If Sollecito succeeds in his latest defense tactic, he may greatly reduce his 25 year sentence while Amanda Knox will be burdened with all of the blame for the murder along with Rudy Guede.
