The apple evidently didn't fall far from the tree.
Rafael Cruz, the father of the wingnut anti-government Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), cited during a Friday speech a passage from President Obama's Book, The Audacity of Hope, as supposed proof that the President is a Muslim.
In audio obtained and released by ColoradoPols.com, the elder Cruz told the Adams County Republican Party that "Barack Obama said: If the winds shift, I will side with the Muslims."
When an audience member shouted, "He is Muslim!", Cruz appeared to agree.
"McCain couldn’t say that, because it’s not politically correct. It is time to stop being politically correct!"
It is also time to stop being deliberately dishonest. The G.O.P. and FOX News have been trying to attack Obama with deceptively edited sound bytes for years, and they haven't had any more success than Rafael Cruz will today.
Evidently, the elder Cruz was hanging onto hope that not one Democrat who purchased Obama's book had the capacity to read it. The actual passage reads as follows:
In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
Now we know where his idiot son gets it from.
