On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. Detroit’s Greatest Hits radio station 104.3 WOMC, will broadcast live from Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan in Detroit for the second annual radiothon to benefit Gleaners. The community is encouraged to tune in and make a pledge in support of Gleaners’ work of feeding children in need across southeast Michigan.
Listeners can call 1-855-315-3663 (855-315-FOOD) or visit www.gcfb.org or www.womc.com to make a contribution.
Supporters will have a chance to win special prizes when making a pledge, including: tickets to Detroit sporting events, shows at the Fox Theater, dinning certificates, autographed sports memorabilia and more. All who pledge to make an annual commitment of $20/month will become a Hunger Hero and receive a Made in Detroit Radiothon T-Shirt and pair of tickets to an upcoming Detroit Piston’s game.
The 2012 WOMC Radiothon raised more than $370,000, which provided more than 1.1 million meals for hungry families across southeast Michigan.
Sponsors Sodexo, Kroger and PNC will match all donations pledged during the radiothon. This will allow Gleaners to double their impact by providing six meals to hungry neighbors for every dollar raised.
“Hungry children can’t learn, so getting kids the food they need is absolutely vital to their success,” said Gleaners President W. DeWayne Wells. “Gleaners is extremely proud to partner with 104.3 WOMC, their listeners and all of our match sponsors to make sure our region’s children are well-nourished and prepared for the future.”
Local celebrities will be answering pledge phone lines and packing food with community volunteers.
