Addiction medicine specialist, Dr. Drew Pinsky joined Dr. Oz on Wednesday and discussed his diagnosis and his initial emotions when he discovered he had prostate cancer.
I guess I took a page from what I tell other people, which is you rely on important people close to you, and you get good help, and you don't steep yourself in denial, and you feel the feelings, and they're not so fun. They're not fun. I remember, I think the worst of it for me; strangely, I was on a trip with my family. And when they were telling me the PSA wasn't going down when I was being treated for prostatitis, you just, you get this sinking feeling. It's one of the worst feelings you can have and it's very lonely, very alone. And that's the time to reach out.
Dr. Drew’s appearance on “The Dr. Oz Show” will help raise awareness for one of the most common forms of cancer, and the radio personality is grateful that it is curable.
I have cancer. How about that? And it's funny when I saw you walking out, I thought, ‘wow, it's going to be emotional for me to say this’. Thank god, I have something that is curable. It's called prostate cancer and it is one of the most common cancers out there. A lot of men out there are suffering with this thing.
Dr. Drew offered personal advice on dealing with the prostate cancer diagnosis, and along with Dr. Oz, they both dispensed the risks associated with the disease and discuss the two, extremely important tests every man should take.
Dr. Drew is scheduled to appear on “The Dr. Oz Show” on Wednesday, September 25, check local listings for airtimes.
