The Obama National Security Strategy
Remember the old "war on terror" that became the Obama administrations "overseas contingency operations"? This, in an effort to either deny the fact that a problem exists in the United States or the hope that it would become out of sight, out of mind. Events of the recent past at Fort Hood and Times Square in New York to name just two show that that was simply not the case.
In another effort by President Obama, either through naivete or worse, to deny who the main enemy of the United States is, one need only look at the new National Security Strategy released last month. In it, the phrase "“exploit the proud religion of Islam to serve a violent political vision" has been removed along with the term “violent Islamist extremism." In their place is the term "violent extremism" which is broad, vague and as such much to the liking of President Obama.
Says Senator Lieberman of Connecticut, “Defining the enemy by reference to al-Qaida implies that this war in primarily about destroying an organization, rather than defeating a broader political ideology. This war will not end when al-Qaida has been vanquished . . . but only when the ideology of violent Islamist extremism that inspires and predates it is decisively rejected. That ideology motivates many other groups and individuals . . ."
When will the Obama administration get our national security right? Hopefully before it is too late!
