“Illuminations": The Art of Linda Maldonado and Elise Ritter

Gallery Underground, the popular and critically acclaimed art gallery in Crystal City, proudly announces the upcoming March 2014 exhibit entitled “Illuminations,” featuring the art of Elise Ritter and Linda Maldonado. You are invited to the Opening Reception, Friday, March 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will run from March 3 - 28, 2014.

Here is the basis for how the artists named this exhibit.

“The mysteries of jewel-toned colored light playing on surfaces has forever captured the imagination of artists,” according to Elise Ritter.

The artists use acrylic, watercolor, and collage to achieve imaginative expression in abstract and symbolist styles.

They describe that “they seek visual form for interior landscapes of ideas, imagination, spirit, and intuition.”

They surely have different perspectives and their outcomes are unique to each. They share their love of color and celebrate “the enlightenment that occurs when color meets light in a dance of illuminations”.

Elise and Linda are members of the Arlington Artists Alliance (www.arlingtonartistsalliance.org), and are juried artists at Gallery Underground. Both artists also have been juried into the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and had their work published in the “Potomac Valley Watercolorists: Celebrating 40 Years 1974-2014” commemorative edition.

Linda Maldonado (www.lindamaldonado.com) is a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists. She has taught numerous classes about acrylic mediums and collage.

In 2011, Linda participated in an exchange of artists between Aachen, Germany and Arlington, Virginia. For 8 days in April, three Arlington artists joined nine international artists painting and exhibiting in the historic Aula Carolina in Aachen. In October, five Aachen artists painted and exhibited with the Arlington artists at the Artisphere in Rosslyn, Virginia.

Elise Ritter’s paintings (www.eliserittergallery.com) have been juried into several annual statewide Virginia Watercolor Society shows.

Elise has been asked to join more than 10 art galleries throughout Virginia, including The Tides Inn art gallery, in Irvington. She had a one-person show at the Virginia General Assembly, in the Richmond State Capitol building, as well as being the Fall-Winter 2013 featured artist in the H. Scott November Gallery in Richmond. She participated in two-person shows at the Rappahannock Art League, in Kilmarnock: “Everyday Miracles” and “Celebrating Spirit and Light.”

Both artists’ work has received numerous awards and are represented in many private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe.
