Racism prevails in the South according to a Red Lobster waitress from Franklin, Tenn. On September 9, the Huffington Post reported that nursing student and Red Lobster employee Toni Christina Jenkins posted a copy of customer receipt with a very rude message rather than a tip on her Facebook page. In the tip section of the receipt, rather than leaving a dollar amount, allegedly the customer wrote "None n*****." Needless to say, that picture went viral and caused quite a stir.
In addition to a picture of the receipt, which has since been removed, Jenkins posted the following message, "This is what I got as a tip last night…so happy to live in the proud southern states..God Bless America, land of the free and home of the low class racists of Tennessee." As the picture began to circulate, Jenkins collected both supporters and skeptics. Some deciding that it was not all written by the same person, deducing that the "n" in the first word did not match the "n" in the second one. Of course the picture has not been analyzed by an expert.
In the wake of this social media mess, Jenkins father Toney Bernard Jenkins posted a message to her Facebook page as well. He is now directing all messages and inquiries to their publicist, as his 19-year old daughter seems to be getting inundated with messages, both positive and negative, in regard to the receipt.
Mail Online reported that Jenkins has been suspended from her job at Red Lobster without pay due to the public posting of the receipt. Apparently that receipt was property of the restaurant and since she did not have permission to take a picture of it and make it public, they are investigating whether she violated company policy.
Despite reports that Jenkins has been suspended and even fired, a spokesperson for Red Lobster told The Hollywood Gossip that she is not fired. “Christina Jenkins has NOT been fired. In fact, she has not lost any days of work so far and is still scheduled to work this week as usual.”
