Students and faculty at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) were horrified over a flyer that was circulated in and around the campus and in the nearby Westwood Community, according to KTLA 5, Feb. 9, 2014. The flyer contained profanity and slogans directed at Asian students that were totally inappropriate. It also contained inappropriate and hateful statements regarding Caucasian students who were friends with Asian students.
UCLA Asian students threatened to take legal action in the matter, while the administration at UCLA issued a statement condemning the flyer. The administration's statement also reiterated the University's long held history and tradition of intolerance of any kind of hatred directed to any group of students, i.e, race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, etc.. Administration promised diligence in the search for the perpetrator(s) of this incident.
The University of California was established in 1866 in Berkeley, California. As the University grew, additional campuses were built throughout the state, the latest of which is UC Merced. The University has grown to become one of the most profound educational institutions in the country. Ethnic and cultural diversity and tolerance of people with divergent lifestyles and ideas always has been the cornerstone of the UC system.
