Oh pulllllease. Stop it.
Racism, or any ism that judges an entire group by irrelevant criteria is bad. Everyone must be assessed on their actions, not on traits or fodder necessary for census takers.
One of the roles that faith must play, in all religions, is to teach/preach that all people are worthy of respect. That does not mean that injustice and evil acts should be ignored.
For example, this column doesn’t hate all warmongers from Montana. Only those who served as Vice President.
Stop looking for faux racism and begin fighting it where it really exists.
How about voter suppression to get you all started?
Two ads bound for the Super Bowl generated some concern. One had a white guy affecting a Jamaican accent. Not the New York neighborhood but the island. Anyway, he was laidback and happy and soon this spread to others in his company.
The other one involved an actor looking like an extra from an Aladdin movie, together with his camel. He sees what appears to be a mirage, and tries to reach a large bottle of soda but is immediately outraced by various other groups of folks. The Bedouin is left behind in the sand, so to speak. Sorry sir, no teeth decay and pre-diabetes for you.
As the laid back dude in the first cited commercial would say: relax Mon.
Ironically, there is another previewed ad that is already highly acclaimed and will probably be enjoyed by many viewers during the game. It dumps on one of the few remaining groups who are mocked with no consequence. America’s dufus dads.
The car genie or fairy or something grants a family some wishes. Only the father gets misunderstood and ridiculed.
And by squirrels.
When his first request is finally understood, there is no pixie dust.
Words can hurt. However, sometimes the intent is not to discriminate but to celebrate.
Or to sell stuff to everyone. Why would any company spend millions of dollars crafting a message intent on promoting their product while simultaneously insulting large swaths of people?
But when laws are proposed to change the Electoral College to favor one party and diminish the power of cities and their residents: that is really racism, which must be stopped.
