Rachel Simons of Charisma Book Tours talks about success

Rachel Simons of Charisma Book Tours has been kind enough to stop by and talk with us today about what makes a successful book tour.

How long has Charisma been in business? Is this your first book tour company, or have you done this sort of thing before?

We started Charisma Media Network in March 2011 offering book tours, but also as bloggers to help the group. After a while I thought it would make more sense to have the book tour service on a separate website, so authors could find what they wanted quicker, and that’s when I opened CM Book Tours.

That sounds like a lot of fun. What do you think makes a good book tour?

To make a good book tour, I think it needs a lot of advertising. I have a team who promotes each tour spot via social media networks. It also helps if the tour hosts post on time and add their reviews on Goodreads and Amazon when they can.

How do you find the right bloggers for each genre?

I find that a lot of my bloggers like a multitude of genres, which helps a lot. The bloggers fill in a spreadsheet when they join with genres they will read, so it is pretty easy to find someone for a tour. CM Book Tours has over 250 bloggers signed up as tour hosts, most with great blog readerships and social network standings.

Are you an avid reader? Who are some of your favorite authors?

Yes, I love to read a lot. My husband says that my Kindle is glued to my hands. My favorite authors are Judy Serrano, Melissa Foster, and Patti Larsen. They all captivate me with every book I have read of theirs.

Thank you so much for the compliment, Rachel. I appreciate that. Did you ever want to be a writer?

Yes I did, and I still do. I am actually writing a book at the moment although it is in it's very early stages, as it is sometimes difficult to sit at a computer writing a book when I have a family. I need to split time between the family, book tours, and my own blog.

I can certainly identify with that. Is it hard to set up a book tour? Do you get any help?

It can be hard depending on what is wanted from a tour. It is harder to set up a one-month tour that is not a popular genre, unless I have been given plenty of time in which to do that. I do seem to manage it most of the time though. No I do not get any help, unfortunately. I did have an assistant at the beginning, but she decided it wasn't for her.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know. There must be a fun secret hidden somewhere...

Most people don't know that I am a complete worrier. I worry and stress about everything. In my head, any situation will be played out in the worse case scenario.

I have three tattoos. I am also related by marriage to JFK and Wayne Sleep (UK ballet dancer)

Interesting little tidbits. Thanks so much for sharing with us today. Please give us the link to your virtual book tours and contact information for our readers. Don't forget to include your own blog info.
