Rachel Pearl jams part II

Continued from part I http://www.examiner.com/music-in-los-angeles/la-as-seen-from-rachel-pearl-s-eyes

Rachel Pearl jams on "Like a Video," and one remembers there was once upon a time even in Los Angeles when music lovers were "Like a Virgin" to MTV video's before "Video Killed the Radio Star" and then the internet changed everything.

W.E. You're song "Like A Video" contains fantastic production, great catchy clever lyrics, and beautiful almost Macy Gray-like vocals. It also contains references to MTV videos. The first song even on MTV "Video Killed The Radio Star" comes to mind (as does "Like A Virgin")- was this a direct reference? There seems to be some humor or irony in the reference to these mediums for artists to get their music out there to the public? What do you see as the current role of TV and the Internet for musician in today's market?

R.P Thanks, Will!

My new tune "Like a Video" was not at first a direct reference to anything. I am drawn to the dreamy, glamorous, larger than life scenarios in music videos and love can feel a lot like that. After the groundwork to this song was written, my co-writer and I took a lot of liberties and had some fun with pop culture references.

Another song that I am going to include in my new record is a song called "Media" and it's a tune about how vital TV and Internet is for musicians, actors, and performers of all kinds. We point out the ridiculous- like TMZ and the E! Channel, having your own commercial etc... People like me and my friends find ourselves really jealous of the few that get in the limelight, but if we had the chance we'd love the media attention.
