The film stars James Franco as a man struggling over the death of a young boy who he is responsible for killing. He channels his guilt through his writing, and as he gets more famous, he begins to rebuff any connection towards the boy’s brother and mother. The film chronicles 10 years after the accident.
McAdams will play Franco’s girlfriend who has to deal with Franco’s character mental decline over the death of the boy. Sarah Polley was originally attached to play the role McAdams was chosen for.
Also starring in the film is Charlotte Gainsbourg, who had a role in Melancholia. Gainsbourg will be playing the boy’s mother, while Robert Naylor takes the role of Christopher, the boy’s brother who reaches out to Franco’s character after the accident.
The drama, directed by Wim Wenders, began production in Montreal last week.
