The “Underground-Country Queen,” Rachel Brooke, is coming to New Orleans on March 6 at 9 pm. She will be performing at Siberia located at 2227 Saint Claude Avenue. The cover charge will be $7 per person.
Rachel Brooke has had two Independent Music Award nominations as well as cutting a new 7” release with Exene Cervenka and Sean & Zander on the Muddy Roots label. She has been listed as one of the Women At Forefront of Country Music Evolution by Saving Country Music.com.
Her sound can best be described as a mixture of old New Orleans jazz, Chicago blues, and old-time American country. This blending of musical styles does not produce a jumble of noise, however. It is a creative mix that ultimately becomes the Rachel Brooke sound. She even has produced music reminiscent of the old-fashioned cartoons. These elements form a cohesive soundscape that pulls the past into the present and the listener into the past.
