The Feb. 14 episode of 'Glee' packed a punch that few other episodes of the show can match. In a packed hour that featured a jilting and four different couples disappearing into hotel rooms, hormones and sex were not the biggest news of the night, at least not in relation to the hook-ups that occurred immediately after Emma and Will's wedding was cancelled. Instead, as an Entertainment Weekly recap confirms, the biggest news relates to Rachel Berry and the results of a home pregnancy test. At this point in time, it looks like 'Glee' will be tackling several questions in upcoming episodes.
"Is she or isn't she?" is the most relevant question since home pregnancy test results aren't always accurate. 'Glee' could merely be using the possibility of a pregnancy as a hook that will be dismissed in a future episode by a pregnancy test at the doctor's office. However, the most buzzed about question will surely be "Who is the father of Rachel's maybe baby?" The answer to this query is not easy to arrive at for a few reasons.
First, the timeline for the test isn't immediately clear. In the scene prior to this moment, Finn is giving Mr. Schuester a pep talk in the teacher's lounge and one can't be certain if this is the next weekday after the failed wedding or a certain time period down the road. Since Finn and Rachel were one of the three couples who had sex on last night's episode, a time jump could make Finn the father. Given that the next episode of 'Glee' isn't airing until March 7, we could be seeing a flash forward to that week and the results of an early pregnancy test.
Finn could also theoretically be the father if 'Glee' was following a timeline based on aired episodes of the program versus actual time since Finn's visit to Rachel in New York occurred ten episodes prior to last night. A gap exists in this sequence between when Rachel told Kurt her and Finn had not slept together and Finn's return to Lima, Ohio. The third possibility is that the baby is Brody's and that the reunion of Finchel will be hit with this roadblock while fans also wait to see exactly when Rachel will find out about last night's other big reveal - that Brody is working as either a hooker or an escort.
'Glee' certainly gave viewers plenty of information to digest and speculate over for the next three weeks. One can only hope that this plot line is dealt with realistically and not given the quick resolution treatment many serious issues, such as Marley's bulimia disorder, have received this year on the show.
