Rachael Yamagata to play Larimer Lounge November 24

Singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata has become a staple in the indie and adult alternative scene over the past ten years or so, to the point that most people have heard her music, even if they don’t know her name. Rachael’s songs have appeared on many popular films and television shows, including How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock and Elizabethtown, among others. When she “went indie” a couple of years ago by setting up her own label, her fans lent their full support, fully funding her last album Chesapeake in a matter of days via a PledgeMusic campaign.

This month, Rachael kicked off a new tour for her new EP release Heavyweight, and is bringing her tour to Denver’s Larimer Lounge next weekend, November 24.

“I'm very excited because the band is entirely a new formation,” says Rachael. “I'm trying something different for this round, and taking two new string players, a cellist and a violinist, and having a friend of mine who plays drums, bass and guitar sit in on various things. The two openers I'm bringing are also going to join in, so there should be a lot of great background vocals going on, and a bit of a string-heavy, stripped down set.”

Rachael also says the new live format plays to the strengths of the EP. “A lot of the songs on the EP have that same string-heavy sort of whisper-like quality to them,” she says. “It definitely sustains a certain mood through the whole thing, and maybe answers the call of my last record that didn't have quite as many ballads on it as usual.”

Rachael will play the Larimer Lounge next weekend, Saturday, November 24. Tickets are still available at press time, but given the size of the venue, you should get them sooner rather than later if you plan to attend. This is a great opportunity to hear Rachael Yamagata perform in an intimate setting with a whole new format. Advance tickets are $20, available through the Larimer Lounge website. Show starts at 9:00 PM.
