If you want to challenge yourself with 2,100 feet of climbing through 9.3 miles of Napa's beautiful wine country, register for the inaugural Atlas Peak Challenge.
You will start at the Silverado Resort and race to the top of Atlas Peak Road with Rabobank pros such as Olympic gold medalist Graeme Brown and 2008 Cyclo-cross World Champion Lars Boom. Retired Tour de France veterans Koos Moerenhout and Hennie Kuiper will be at the awards ceremony. Kuiper knows a thing or two about climbing having twice won the Alpe d'Huez stage at the Tour de France.
The Atlas Peak Challenge will have a unique handicap system to help normalize the field for an exciting finish. The system will consider age, gender and weight to create a fun and fair race. The first eight finishers will receive a special bottle of wine from the Atlas Peak Appellation. The pros will start late and will not be eligible for awards. Their reward will be a tune-up workout to prepare for the Tour of California the following week.
Race check-in is at 7 am on Saturday May 7. According to Trifiniti race director, Duane Franks, the race is almost sold-out, with just 19 spots remaining. A portion of the $60 race fee will benefit Clinic Ole which provides high- quality, affordable and compassionate health care for Napa County's under-served residents. The registration deadline is Thursday May 5.
