Race, run, walk for charity in Milan

Two Milan city races are now open for online registration. for Spring 2013. The Stramilano, the annual competitive half marathon, 10K run and 5K family fun walk held Sunday, March 24, is followed this year by the Milano City Marathon, Sunday, April 7, an international competitive race for individuals and relay teams. For the competitive races each runner must present a valid medical certificate stating that they are capable of covering the distance running, either 21 kilometers or 42 kilometers. Registration fees vary and photo identification must be presented to pick up race packets.

Stramilano, with staggered starts, begins at 9:30 a.m. at Piazza Duomo and ends at the Arena Civica. The Milan City Marathon, still in its organizational stage, begins at the Fiera Rho/Pero crossing and ends at Castello Sforzesco. Traffic will be blocked both dates for at least six hours, the maximum time alotted to complete the races.

The City of Milan and Region of Lombardy as well as the Milan public transit system, international banks and corporations have joined forces to support both races. All proceeds from the races with be donated to Italian charities. Hotel and train travel sponsors offering competitive rates on accomodation and seat reservations can be found on the race websites and Facebook pages. Sandwiched around Easter Sunday, March 31, both races expect to meet full capacity. Early online registration this year can guarantee a place in each race, run, or walk for charity in Milan.
