I was invited to attend a media event to profile some of the new items on RA Sushi’s menu. Besides new lunch, dinner, sushi and beverage items the menu also has new categories and a “Guest Faves” icon.
“While we have kept our guests’ favorite dishes on the menu, we have made room for some exciting new creations,” said RA Sushi Executive Chef Tai Obata. “We’ve fused traditional Japanese cuisine with concepts from other regions, integrating some Latin influences and adding an entirely new tapas selection.”
Some of the new menu items we tried are:
- Sweet Onion Salmon- salmon with marinated onions & sweet onion dressing; served with organic micro greens ($7.50)I loved the sweetness of this but it wasn't overly sweet.
- RA Chips & Salsa- spicy tuna tartare mixed with cucumber, avocado & fresh salsa; served with wonton chips ($8.50)
- Kaisen Ceviche- Japanese style ceviche; cooked shrimp, scallops & squid, chilled & mixed with fresh tomato, avocado & salsa; served in a spring roll shell ($9.50)
- Hot Mess- crispy rice balls topped with a spicy king crab mix; baked & ?nished with jalapeño & cilantro($14) Its name it very truthfully but I loved it.
- “RA”llipop- tuna, salmon, yellowtail, spicy tuna mix, lettuce, asparagus & cucumber wrapped in lobok; served skewered with a garlic ponzu sauce ($15) This was easy to eat because of the skewer
- Banana Split Maki- sliced like a sushi roll, the fried banana maki is topped with whipped cream, strawberries, kiwi and mandarin oranges, and drizzled with chocolate and raspberry sauce ($6.75)
- Tea It Up- Sweet Carolina Sweet Tea Vodka with Zen Green Tea liqueur & lemonade. This one will catch up with you because you can’t taste the alcohol.
- Strawberry Gingerita- 1800 Silver tequilia mixed with strawberry & subtle hints of Elixir G ginger puree
When you walk into Ra Sushi you are greeted by a very modern and sleek atmosphere dawned in a dark and dramatic lighting with red and glowing sphere lights and thumping music (some say the music is too loud but I felt it fit the atmosphere they had set and you could still hear each other talk). The space is divided into several dining areas, with your traditional sushi bar and a cocktail bar and lounge area. They offer Happy Hour 7 days a week. From 3-7 on Monday through Saturday and then on Sunday they have Reverse Happy Hour from 8-11 pm. During Happy Hour they offer a wide variety of appetizers and sushi at ½ off. They also have a drink list the offers a vast variety of drink from $1 to $5. The Happy Hour specials are offered through out the entire restaurant.
