Raëlians join topless marches for women's equality (video)

Sunday, August 23rd was National Go Topless Day, an event promoted by the Raëlians, a UFO cult founded by a former French sports-car journalist and test driver named Claude Vorilhon (who changed his name to Raël after a purported 1973 encounter with a space alien named "Yahweh"). While the Raëlians are best known for the unsubstantiated claim of having cloned a human being in 2004, sensuality is also an important part of the sect's dogma. In keeping with their ideals, Raël founded Go Topless.org and has been quoted as saying, "as long as men can be topless, constitutionally women should have the same right, or men should also be forced to wear something hiding their chest."

Topless events were held in various locations across the country, including New York, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Oregon and Ohio. The video footage shown here was from a parade held at Venice Beach, California. It should be noted that female participants are not technically topless (though it's hard to tell since they are wearing nipple-shaped pasties over the real thing) and, while police were present, no arrests were made.
