'R-Type Dimensions' to blast its way onto PlayStation 3

Tozai Games announced on May 8, 2014 that R-Type Dimensions will be blasting its way onto the PlayStation 3 later this month. R-Type Dimensions features two action-packed classic arcade shooter titles: R-Type and R-Type II. Both have received significant updates for the re-release.

Those wanting the authentic feel can play R-Type and R-Type II in classic mode, as they were originally created by Irem Software Engineering with all eight of the original R-Type levels and all six of the R-Type II levels. Alternatively, there's an option for new hi-res enhanced 2D/3D graphics along with remastered audio soundtrack and effects. Players can switch back and forth between the two versions via a simple tap of a button.

There's two new modes of the game, exclusive to PlayStation 3: Infinite Mode and Level Select. They'll allow you to master each stage so that you can pin down the perfect run. If that's not enough help, then a slow motion mode will let you "weave through bullets and enemies with ease."

You'll be able to play with a friend with a local co-op mode, vie for top rankings on worldwide leaderboards, and brag about your P33 Trophies.

Another interesting feature are new player statistics. This gamer's afraid to see just how many times he dies. Are you?

R-Type Dimensions will be available to download from the PlayStation Network on May 20, 2014 for $9.99.
