R.I.P. investigated the Knickerbocker Hotel in Linesville, PA, November 20th through November 21st. Evidence is still being reviewed at this time, but the team had many interesting personal experiences to report. They’re hoping that correlating audio, video, and photographic evidence will provide confirmation.
Shortly after arriving, R.I.P. President Patricia Marin conducted interviews with Peg Knickerbocker, her husband Merle, and several witnesses. All claimed to have experienced unexplained paranormal activity at the location, including hearing voices and footsteps, as well as several appearances of full-body apparitions. Pat interviewed Peg on the third floor. It was late afternoon and the interview had been going well. The building was well heated with no obvious drafts. Suddenly, Pat began to experience cold chills. She noticed goose bumps on both arms and she felt the hair on the back of her neck rise. Pat stated with absolute certainty, “There’s someone here right now.” Neither Peg nor the videographer, Frank, felt anything. After the feeling subsided, Pat and Jim Marin checked the area for high EMF and drafts but found no apparent source that would explain Pat’s reaction.
R.I.P. Psychic Medium Rene Garcia conducted the first walk through and pronounced it “very active.” R.I.P. Psychic Historian Carol LaRiviere did a solo walk through next and pinpointed many of the same spots as Rene. Carol wasn’t around during Rene’s walk through and he did not share any of his findings with her. They both agreed that the third floor was a major hot spot for spirit activity. At that time, neither was aware that Pat had already had an experience on the third floor.
Spirit Circle
R.I.P. Psychic Historian Carol LaRiviere led the first Spirit Circle. There is an anomaly visible on video as the circle is opened. The anomaly is under evaluation. During the Circle itself, Pat felt a sharp pain in her right wrist and forearm. She does not have any condition that would cause this, nor was it any type of flare-up from a previous injury. Nor could it be explained as the result of a temporary strain caused by carrying something heavy earlier in the day. The pain was intense but proved temporary. She also felt the sensation of cold chills again and felt that someone was standing next to her and then behind her chair. Carol confirmed this impression. Lisa felt someone continually brushing against her ankles. A Chat Room participant suggested that it might be the ghost cat, which made sense. There were temperature fluctuations throughout the Spirit Circle.
EMF Source Pinpointed
Pat and Malinka felt a cold spot and then a breeze at one point during the Spirit Circle. There were no open windows and no drafts. Lisa and Malinka got a solid KII orange reading in the space between them.
R.I.P. Scientific Researcher Jim Marin and R.I.P. Psychic Medium Rene were determined to find a non-paranormal explanation for the elevated EMF readings. Eventually, they were able to trace the higher than normal readings to the light fixture directly below the area where the Spirit Circle was being held. When the second floor fluorescent light was switched off, the EMF readings settled back into the normal range.
Strange Sequence of Events
Elevated readings all the way to red in one bedroom could not be so easily explained. In one of the bedrooms in the private apartment/office area of the second floor, the readings spiked and the eSmog meter picked up a “non 60 cycle” sound. This means that it was not caused by regular house wiring or other normal electrical sources. Two investigators who slept in that same room later both reported having bad or odd dreams. One investigator, Lisa, said she felt her head touched during the night. Investigators learned from Peg the next morning that there have been other reports of strange experiences in that same room.
Live Investigation
This event at the Knickerbocker Hotel was the first time the R.I.P. team had aired parts of their investigation live via several webcams. Participants interacted with the team via the Chat Room and they provided valuable feedback, questions, and suggestions for the investigators. Look for more upcoming live webcam investigations, as well as monthly new webisodes of this popular paranormal series, “The R.I.P. Files,” available as video on demand on Mingle Media TV Network.
Check out the webcams
There are usually six webcams available at the Knickerbocker Hotel for armchair ghost hunters. They're on, except for routine maintenance downtimes, 24/7/365 and viewers have spotted a number of anomalies and even captured EVPs over the webcams. Listen to some of the EVPs and check out additional evidence on this page. Future Webisodes
“The R.I.P. Files: Knickerbocker Hotel” will be available as a video on demand webisode in the first quarter of 2011. Upcoming webisodes slated for release in early 2011 include: “The R.I.P.
