Doggone it! According to an Arizona Daily Star article published on Oct. 18,2013, the World’s Tallest Dog has died. Giant George, the larger than life, one-of-a-kind dog, passed away on Oct. 17, 2013.
According to his official Facebook page (and yes, he has one):
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce Giant George died last night. George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones; one month before his eighth birthday. We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years. We look forward to honoring his spirit by continuing his charitable works.”
It’s hard to believe the blue Great Dane who grew to 43 inches tall from paw to shoulders, measured over seven feet from nose to tail and tipped the scale at a whopping 245 pounds, was actually the runt of the litter when he was born! But the “little” guy touched the hearts of Dave and Christie Nasser who ended up adopting him when he was about 7 weeks old.
"Little" did they know that George would one day become the World’s Tallest Dog. Eating 110 pounds of food each month, no ordinary dog house would ever do for George. No sir! He slept in his own queen-size bed. Life was not to “ruff” for gorgeous George.
His amazing "feet" didn't go unnoticed, either. In fact, the record-holding canine didn’t have just one title – he had two. In 2010, Guinness World Records named George the Tallest Dog Ever and World’s Tallest Dog. It just goes to show you, sometimes size really does matter! For more information on this beloved dog's amazing "tail," please read his story, Giant George: Life With the World's Biggest Dog.
George was born on Nov. 17, 2005 and passed away nearly eight years later. R.I.P, gentle giant. You will be missed!
UPDATE: In honor of this gentle giant, the 1st Annual Giant George Service Day will be held to celebrate the giving spirit of the World's Tallest Dog.
