R&B legend, Allen Toussaint, to perform at City Winery Napa

Allen Toussaint
Glade Bilby II

Barely a month after opening its doors, City Winery Napa has established itself as the destination for live entertainment in the Napa Valley. The roster of upcoming shows has something for everyone, as does their menu and wine list. Coming up in just a couple weeks, the man known as one of the most influential figures in New Orleans rhythm and blues, Allen Toussaint, will take the stage, and this is something that should not be missed.

Toussaint has been in the music business for over 50 years and has worked with such luminaries as Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Etta James, Devo, and the Rolling Stones, to mention a few. His music has been featured in countless films, he’s won the esteemed Outer Circle Critics Award for his work as musical director for the off Broadway play, Staggerlee, and in 2013, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for the Arts by President Obama. In addition to writing, producing, and directing, Toussaint’s talent as a pianist is peerless.

His adroit mastery of the ivories is delivered in a distinctively New Orleans jazzy fashion and has helped shape the sound coming from that region for decades. His solo work is fun and funky with a style and cheeky humor all its own. With lyrics like “Hey you, with the curly bush on your head, you’re looking good soul sister” and “Nothin’ make ‘em holler, like the all mighty dollar” his City Winery Napa performance is sure to be a total hoot.

Whether you are lifelong fan or a curious newby, the opportunity to see this music legend up close and personal at one of the nicest venues you’ll ever visit should not be passed up. Tickets to see Allen Toussaint are on sale now and range from $25 to $35 and can be purchased through the City Winery Napa website by clicking here. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 8. City Winery Napa at the Historic Napa Valley Opera House is located at 1030 Main Street, right in the middle of downtown Napa.
