W.E. Which aspect are you most looking forward to about performing in Los Angeles at the Genghis Cohen in West Hollywood Los Angeles tomorrow night?
J.Q. Genghis is going to be a night full of songs and stories. It will be an intimate conversation...like having a glass of wine with friends over dinner...where you tell a few stories and get to know each other better. That's what I love about going acoustic....there is a freedom and a sense of peeling everything away until all you have is the soul.
W.E. Once again, you recently blew everyone away with your talent, your soul, your songs of healing and hope at the Hotel Cafe during a performance in which you were eagerly embraced by the audience. Can you please describe your mindset and feelings towards the Hotel Cafe experience?
J.Q. I dreamed for so long to play Hotel Cafe, and when I got to for the first time - for the release of my debut EP And So I Sing - it was literally a dream come true. I remember sitting in the green room before the first show, staring at everything in it - the signs on the wall, my band, my dress, the instruments - and it literally felt like I was dreaming. People say that, but I meant it. I felt like I was physically living in a dream. I was so happy.
Now, I've had the opportunity to play there a handful of times, and every show there still feels so special to me. They have been so good to me and I am very grateful. That venue is a magical place - as a performer and as an audience member - and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I also love that you can go there any night of the week - even if you don't know any of the artists on the bill that night - and be guaranteed to become a new fan of one of them... It's a lot like Nashville in that way.
