Quilt National Exhibition

Beginning Tuesday February 14th, the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles will host its 17th annual biennial juried exhibition of Quilt National. This happens to be the first quintessential exhibition of contemporary art quilts since 2006.

Quilt National has been juried by Eleanor McCain, Pauline Verbeek-Cowart, and Nelda Warkentin during the fall of 2010, and will feature forty-six works by first time and established artists, each showcasing state-of-the-art contemporary quilting in a range of styles, techniques, and multi-faceted contemporary expressions. And like the past exhibitions for Quilt National, these works have either never been exhibited or published, but each carry the purpose of “quilting far and beyond the traditional parameters and promote quilt making as an art form”.

Among the artists taking part in this biennial exhibition includes Helene Davis, Deidre Adams, Kent Williams, and Anne Smith. The museum also offers samples on their website, just to give those who will visit the museum between February 14th and April 29th, a taste of what is to be expected in this exhibition.  These samples includes a purplish, tie-dyed reflective piece by Helene Davis titled Shimmer, and a very abstracted piece by Anne Smith titled Mother Me, Mother You.
