Quick tips to write an effective cover letter

Whether you are using a cover letter as an introduction to a prospective employer via email, or uploading a separate document for an online posting, this is a potential make or break for Phoenix job seekers.  Everyone knows that checking spelling and grammar is crucial, but what else should you be aware of to make an impact and motivate that employer to open your resume and review it?

•          Use the ‘body of the letter’ to explain relevant information in a brief format that will help the reader know what you can provide in skills and experience.  This may include some (but not ALL) of this information:

–        What skills are unique to the position in the description that you have in past experience?

–        What volunteer or organization experiences have given you skills needed for this position?

–        Are there specific organizations you involved in that have professional affiliation to the company?

•          Make sure the closing paragraph requests a phone or personal interview, whichever is more applicable or noted in the job listing.  Remember to note your appreciation for time in reviewing the resume and offer to provide additional information if they would like you to.

Phoenix job seekers can find out more details about how to create an impactful cover letter along with other career search topics this Saturday, June 18th at a free to the public workshop from the University of Phoenix Hohokam Campus.  For more information:
