If you are reading this article then you are probably panicing. Valentines day is just around the corner and you haven't had the time to shop or you are out of ideas. You could order flowers, again, or sell an organ on the black market to fund a diamond neckalce. Or, you could try something a bit more thoughtful (and cheaper) this year.
We've all been there. Standing in the candy isle the night before Valentines day trying to decide what pink heart box is the one. Candy is always a winner, but while the heart shaped box is cute and all, it’s not very personal. There are several edible gifts that are just as easy as picking out a box of chocolates, but are much more meaningful. Here are a list of two ingredient recipes that you can easily and quickly make right at home.
Chocolate covered strawberries are yummy and simple. It’s as easy as buying a package of strawberries, preferably ones that still have the stems, and unsweetened baking chocolate. One trick is to make sure the chocolate does not get too hot, so you can put it in a bowl and steam it over a pot of boiling water or microwave it until it begins to melt. Holding the strawberry by the stem, simply dip it into the chocolate and lay it on a cookie tray covered in wax paper. If you can't find stemmed strawberries toothpicks will work just as well. Put them in the fridge for an hour or so to cool and harden. Want to kick it up at notch? Buy unsweetened white baking chocolate and add a few drops of red food coloring to make a pinkish color. Dip a spoon in the pink chocolate and drizzle it over top of the cooled chocolate strawberries.
You could also try these simple chocolate truffles. All you need is 1 package of cream cheese and a box of baking chocolate. Take half of your chocolate and melt it in the microwave. Add the chocolate to your cream cheese and mix it together. Roll the mixture into little balls and place them on wax paper on a cookie tray in the fridge for around an hour. You can also add other flavors to your mixture like mint, orange, or peanut butter. Once they are firm, take the other half of your chocolate and melt it. Simply dip them into the chocolate to coat them and before they completely dry add little pink or heart-shaped sprinkles to make them super cute!
Another simple recipe you could try is strawberry fudge. This is also a two-ingredient concoction; all you need are white chocolate chips and strawberry cake frosting. Melt the chocolate and mix it together with the frosting and add sprinkles at this time if you desire. Spread the mixture out on a baking sheet and place in the fridge to cool for a few hours. When they have hardened you can cut it into heart-shaped pieces by using a cookie cutter. If you are going to give these as a gift simply buy pink and red tissue paper and some ribbon. This would be a great gift to colleagues, fellow workers and family.
Last, but certainly not least, this simple snack is delicious and cute. All you need is a pack of mini pretzels, chocolate Hershey kisses, and pink M&Ms. OK, I know that is three ingredients, but I have faith in you. Place the pretzels on a cookie tray and put the Hershey kisses in the middle of each one. Bake on 350 degrees for a few minutes until you notice the chocolate melting. Take them out and place a M&M on each, quickly before the chocolate cools.
