Fashion notes: Kyla Ross is in red Under Armor with plenty of silver spangles. The Belgians are wearing their national team leotard, while Jamaica's Ayana Lee has something black, emerald green and yellow, as usual. The Brazilian women, like the men, are in a beautiful royal blue shade.
Lisa Verschueren, vault: A Belgian opens the competition to a huge ovation from the crowd. FTY with a small step back. Crowd roaring for her.
Dorina Boczogo, bars: Lovely clear hip hecht impresses the crowd. Gienger. Pike Jaeger. Gorgeous lines. Good double pike dismount, tiny hop. Nice set!
Jisoo Park, beam: In a leo that looks like a Pepsi commercial. (Maybe Pepsi should sponsor the South Korean team...) Working very well until almost comes off on double turn. Double pike with a step back. Nice routine overall, and very pretty presentation.
Anna Geidt, floor: "In the Hall of the Mountain King." Double pike. Double tuck. Steps back on both, nothing serious. 1.5 twist to slightly awkward landing at the end.
Nicolle Vasquez Aviles, vault: Yurchenko 1.5, strong. Second vault she pops up, freaks out and does a handspring front to her back. Wonder what that was supposed to be? She's fine and everything.
Kaitlyn Hofland, bars: Ricna, lovely. Bail to toe full, not quite in handstand. Rest was excellent. Sticks double front dismount.
Zeng Siqi, beam: Press mount. PUnch front, excellent. Bhs, bhs to two feet, layout to two feet, excellent. Switch to sheep. Wonderful work, so elegant...and solid! Front aerial to split jump. Then loses it and falls on a side aerial! Oh, such a shame. Switch to back tuck. And a nice double pike with a step back.
Leticia Costa, floor: I know nothing about South American music, but this does sound South American, like something you'd move to while walking through the rainforest. Arabian double front, step forward. Double pike. Double tuck to end. One to keep an eye on, this one.
Nadia Muelhauser, vault: Clean FTY, very good.
India McPeak, floor: Full in tuck, good landing, basically stuck. Front layout full second pass. Powerful, driving music. Then hands down on her 2.5 twist to end. Shame!
Kyla Ross, vault: Excellent DTY, hop back.
Karina Lopez, bars: Comes off on something, didn't see what.
Stefania Stanila, floor: Spanish beat. Triple full, steps backwards out of it. 2.5 to punch front. Double tuck to end. Neither poor nor excellent.
Sophie Scheder, bars: Inbar full to Maloney to bal to toe full to hecht to high, toe syalder to toe blind to Jaeger. Good high full in tuck dismount, hop forward. Lovely work.
Sanne Wevers, beam: Roundoff, bhs full mount and falls! Oh, that's a shame! Has to grab the beam after a double turn. But everything in the rest of the routine -- including full twisting bhs midway through -- was excellent. What a shame! Double full dismount and walks off the podium with her hands over her face. Oh dear oh dear...
Ayana Lee, vault: Handspring front tuck half.
Mira Boumejmajen, beam: Split leap mount. Front aerial to sheep. Switch to back tuck. Bhs, bhs, layout, way offline even in midair and falls to her back on the podium (feet first). The crowd gasps. Off again on her Onodi, which she barely got over on. Big step forward on her dismount. Yikes.
Alexandra Choon, floor: Latin beat. Very good form on what I saw.
Alice Janova, floor: Opens with a double tuck, closes with a double full.
Note: Kyla Ross's 15.166 on vault is leading the competition in this very early stage. And if they're giving Ross 15.166 for a DTY (albeit an extremely clean one), imagine what they'd give McKayla Maroney for a stuck Amanar!
Leticia Costa, vault: FTY I think.
Nadia Muelhauser, bars: Didn't see it, but the Swiss cowbells are going full force, so it must have been good.
Kaitlyn Hofland, beam: Good double turn. Back tuck. Full twisting bhs. Bhs, layout, teeny wobble, no big deal. Full turn to illusion, nice! Something I missed to side somie. Very good job so far...and full twisting Gainer layout off the end of the beam. Great routine!
Ida Gustafsson, floor: 2.5 twist. Very dark music.
India McPeak, vault: Either layout Yurchenko or layout Tsuk. Step back.
Kyla Ross, bars: Maloney to Pak. Toe Khorkina II. Blind to Jaeger. Inbar full to bail to hecht to high, wonderful double layout dismount, tiny hop forward. Excellent routine for Kyla.
Sarah El Dabagh, beam: At least one fall. Didn't see it.
Vera van Pol, floor: Huge high Arabian double front. Wow! Full in tuck second pass. OOB on her third pass. Big step on 2.5 twist to end.
Valerija Grisane, vault: Nice FTY, great landing. Second vault is a nice handspring front pike.
Ayana Lee, bars: Pak. Toe front tuck half dismount. Needs to work form and extension a bit.
Mira Boumejmajen, floor: "The Fifth Element." Double pike, bounces back. 1.5 to front layout, big hop forward. Music seems quite rhythmic gymnastics (or not, a rhythmic expert tells me that's not so.) Quadruple turn if I'm not mistaken right before her final pass, which is a stuck double full. Well, after the disaster on beam, this was much better.
Alice Jenova, vault: Yurchenko layout, came onto the horse way too high. Overrotates to her back.
Shaked Malec, bars: Jaeger too close to the bar and crunches her legs as she comes out of it. Double pike too close to the bar as well, but she lands it all right.
Martina Castro Lazo, beam: Fall on punch front, I believe. Side somie, small wobble. Side aerial. Switch. Gainer pike off the end.
Jisoo Park, floor: Using the jazzy tango music Shawn Johnson would have done in 2011. Double full. Excellent Memmel turn. Double tuck. Nice routine.
Anna Geidt, vault: Handspring front pike, a bit close to the table for my taste. Tsuk pike second vault.
Lisa Verschueren, bars: Best routine of her life! The crowd is going wild. She has excellent swing and great potential o this event.
Sophie Scheder, beam: Front walkover mount. Front aerial to split jump. Stag handstand at the end of the beam to stag sit, reminiscent of Katelyn Ohashi. Then comes off on a side aerial? Switch, wolf. Front aerial. Side somie. A really pretty gymnast to watch, very methodical, not too quick but takes her time. Off again on full turn with leg at horizontal. She could have fought harder for that! Gainer layout off the end.
Dorina Boczogo, beam: Lovely, lovely press mount to handstand to one arm and down to a cross sit on the beam, which deservedly gets its own round of applause. Front somie to front aerial. Side aerial to wolf. Side somie. Switch to split. Layout walkout. Switch ring but doesn't even try to throw her head back. Roundoff, double tuck, stuck, but she's overtime. Stylish routine.
Ida Gustafsson, vault: FTY, nice.
India McPeak, bars: Jump to high, Tkatchve. Bail short of handstand. Clear hip to kip to toe hecht to high, Giant full to giants to nice double twist, small hop.
Nadia Muelhauser, beam: Switch mount. Front tuck. Bhs, layout, wobble. Didn't see the rest. Subdued cowbelling at the end of that routine, so perhaps there was a mistake?
Sarah El Dabagh, floor: Bond piece. Double pike, step back. Double pike, ditto.
Mira Boumejmajen, vault: FTY, small hop on landing. Well done.
Kyla Ross, beam: Switch ring, lovely. Bhs, layout. Front aerial, pause, sheep. Side somie. Really good presentation. Switch to back tuck. Punch front to wolf, very elegant. Double tuck dismount, tiny hop. Hit routine for Ross again! Wonderful work.
Hong Un Jong, floor: 1.5 to triple full. Music sounds like it comes from a children's television show. Double pike? Didn't really see the rest.
Jisoo Park, vault: FTY, step forward.
Inna Vassilyeva, bars: Stalder full to Tkatchev. Bail to toe stalder to toe shoot to high, full turn, giant, blind, front giant, half turn, giant, double pike.
Ayana Lee, beam: Off on bhs, layout to two feet. Switch to pike jump. Looking a little cautious after her fall, but the side somie goes OK. Missed the rest.
Martina Castro Lazo, floor: Front handspring to double front opening pass for her. Impressive! But sits second pass, alas. Like Aussie Lauren Mitchell, Martina does a wolf turn on floor, something quite rare. Double full to end.
Leticia Costa, bars: Toe stalder to Maloney to bail to toe hecht, a little leg separation there. Gienger, legs apart. Front giants to double front, some steps back, a bit untidy on landing. Leg separations were her big problem on this event.
Shaked Malec, beam: The Israeli mounts with a press handstand. Punch front. Bhs, layout. Back tuck. Switch to wolf. She has good technique, now just needs to work presentation. Falls on a full turn. Front layout full dismount.
Sophie Scheder, floor: One impressive thing about her is that for a first year senior, she really carries herself with maturity. Terrific arms and hands, excellent presence and a lot of elegance. Double pike, flaps out of it a bit. Double tuck, small hop. Double full. This won't receive a super high score because her tumbling isn't that hard, but it is nice to see a complete routine in terms of tumbling and dance that is well done.
Dorina Boczogo, floor: Bon Jovi! Full in pike. Handspring double front. Double pike. Hit set again for Boczogo, who no doubt wants all-around finals.
Lisa Verschueren, beam: Front aerial, split jump. 1.5 turn in wolf position. Bhs, layout. Double pike. Really the first Belgian gymnast we've seen other than rings specialist Denis Goossens to rise to the challenge of being in front of the home crowd here. Who knows? She may be the next Gaelle Mys...
Note: USA Gymnastics's Scott Bregman doesn't understand Kyla Ross's 8.6-something E-score on beam. "She didn't give them anything," he said, except that broken front aerial-sheep connection. Agreed. Does that mean the best presentations on beam will have mid-8's as E scores? We'll see.
Maegan Chant, floor: Ooh, new routine for Maegan since this spring here! Double layout, legs a bit apart and hops back, but powerful. Full in pike. Maegan is a student of 1991 World floor champion Cristina Bontas, and it's been noted more than once that they Maegan's work resembles Cristina's. Double tuck. Double pike to close. Nice set.
Note: Kyla Ross's D-score on beam was challenged and has been raised a tenth. She gets 5.9 D-score. She ends her day at 59.198 in the all-around.
Hong Un Jong, vault: All eyes are on the 2008 Olympic vault champion, who has submitted a TTY for review here...but will she do it now, or in event finals? In event finals, apparently -- she tosses an Amanar, and a good-looking one too, just a step forward. Second vault is a Cheng, and she lands it low and it looks for a second like her legs will buckle, but they don't -- she keeps it on her feet. That might be the save of the subdivision...
Vera van Pol, bars: Off on hop full to Gienger. Jaeger. Bail to Ray. Double pike dismount.
Stefania Stanila, beam: Roundoff, 2.5 twist dismount was all I saw.
Kyla Ross, floor: Her pretty new set...Arabian double front to immediate stag jump. Full in tuck. Double pike. Double tuck dismount, stuck. Plenty of endurance for that. What a great opening round for Kyla Ross!
Eliana Gonzalez, vault: Tsuk full.
Mira Boumejmajen, bars: Toe full to Maloney to bail to toe hecht to high, blind to pike Jaeger. Double pike dismount, plunges forward and has to put her hands down.
Alexandra Choon, beam: Off on her flight series.
Ayana Lee, floor: Double pike opener, overrotates it to her back.
Jisoo Park, bars: Toe blind to Jaeger. Pak. Stalder. Ray. Not making some of her handstands. Double layout to good landing.
Valerija Grisane, beam: Bhs, layout. Side aerial. Wolf.
Shaked Malec, floor: "Step Up." No flow to her dance. 1.5 twist third pass. Hands brush the floor on her double pike to end. Again, decent technique on her acro stuff, but still some work to be done.
Huang Huidan, bars: Inbar full t stalder Shaposh to immediate Khorkina II transition. Jaeger and a lot of pirouetting that I'm leaving out...full twisting double tuck, small hop. Hit routine for Huang.
Alice Janova, beam: Didn't see much...dismounted with a front layout full.
Lisa Verschueren, floor: The crowd sees her on the big screen and an "ooooh!" rises from them. Violin piece. Double tuck, nice. Double twist. Lovely dance! Falls on third pass, however. Nice double pike to end.
Dorina Boczogo, vault: FTY, well done, tiny hop. Nice form! Rolls backward on her second vault, a handspring front pike half.
Ida Gustafsson, bars: Shaposh to uprise clear hip and not enough swing to make it to handstand, has to do a quick half turn and ends up jumping off. Hindorff. Jaeger? Full turn. Full twisting double tuck, step forward. Too bad! She's excellent on this event.
Inna Vassilyeva, beam: Bhs, layout to two feet.
Nicolle Vasquez Aviles, floor: Latin beat. Bouncy double tuck. Front double full, OOB on her step forward. 1.5 to front layout full. Didn't see the last pass, but she landed it forward.
Maegan Chant, vault: Goes for the Tsuk double full, and though she doesn't fall, I'm not sure she will get credit for the double full. It was more like 1 3/4. Props to her for going for it, though! She has a long wait while the judges decide whether that was a 1.5 or a double. Second vault is handspring front layout half (Cuervo). Step back.
Leticia Costa, beam: Bhs, layout. Standing Arabian. Double pike dismount, well done. No falls!
Nadia Muelhauser, floor: Pretty, soft piece of music, with violins. Double pike to open. Double full to end.
India McPeak, beam: Handstand step down, bhs, layout, comes off. Full turn with leg at horizontal. Side aerial, leg comes up but she doesn't fall. Punch front. Missed the dismount.
Due to a technical problem, Nicolle Vasquez will get to do her second vault now. Switch half. Handspring front tuck half.
1:36 p.m.: The men completely finished, we can turn our attention to the women, and what an interesting competition it will be! One subplot to be played out during the next couple of days will be which two Americans advance to the all-around final on Friday. Kyla Ross and Simone Biles seemed to the be chosen ones, but the entrance of McKayla Maroney as an all-arounder means there's a wildcard in the pack.
With a really good performance (and mistakes by Biles or Ross), Maroney could knock either of them out of the competition.
There's been plenty of drama on the Russian side as well. Aliya Mustafina and Tatiana Nabieva will both compete all four events, with Anna Rodionova hoping to make finals on bars and beam. For China, Shang Chunsong, Huang Huidan and the always suprising Yao Jinnan will challenge, as will Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber.
1:40 p.m.: Subdivision one recap: As expected, American Kyla Ross leads the all-around after the first of five women's subdivisions here. Ross scored 59.198 overall, nearly seven points higher than her nearest competitor, Brazil's Leticia Costa, who is currently second with 52.665.
Behind her is Hungary's Dorina Boczogo (52.498), followed by Sweden's Ida Gustafsson (52.140, problems on bars) and Germany's Sophie Scheder (52.131, problems on beam).
Subdivision two features Britain's Rebecca Tunney and Venezuelan fan favorite Jessica Lopez, as well as Japan's Mai Murakami and Russia's Anna Rodionova. Stay tuned!
1:46 p.m.: This first of two subdivisions today features China's Zeng Siqi, Lisa Verschueren of Belgium, Hungary's Dorina Boczogo, Canada's Kaitlyn Hofland and impressive young Brazilian Leticia Costa, among others.
The crowd is already about 10 times as enthusiastic as it was for the men's competition, and is whistling and making a lot of noise. They are ready for this to get underway.
Lo Yu Ju, vault: FTY, nice, small hop. Good form.
Sung Ji Hye, beam: Bhs, layout, good. Comes off on something later. Side somie. Punch front.
Farida Shorky, bars: Jump to high, bail to low, clear hip, toe stalder, toe hecht to high, blind to front giant, full turn. Toe front half with a hop.
Rebecca Tunney, vault: Very good DTY, small step back. Comparable with Kyla Ross's, really.
Elisabeth Seitz, bars: Def! Jaeger. Church. Pak to immediate stalder Shaposh. Full twisting double tuck -- or was it as a double double? Anyways, it was very good. She does take a few form breaks, however, most notably on her Pak, where her feet were funky this time.
Francesca Deagostini, beam: Side somie. Front aerial to sheep. Pretty style. I believe this was a hit routine, but I'm not entirely sure. Double pike dismount.
Karina Regidor, floor: Arabian double front, barely stands it up. Closes with double tuck.
Jessica Lopez, vault: DTY, quite good, step forward.
Melany Cabrera, bars: Toe Shaposh to high. Pak. Ray to high. Toe staalder. Gienger (legs). Pretty line, a bit soft in her back and sometimes in the feet. Double pike dismount.
Karla Torres, floor: Arabian double front, a bit wild. Double full to straddle jump, cool! Double pike to end, but falls forward. Too bad. Love her music.
Demet Mutlu, vault: Handspring front pike.
Cintia Rodriguez, bars: Stalder full to toe hecht to high. Toe blind to front stalder half to Geinger. Bail to Ray. Lovely feet and toes! Full twisting double tuck, underrotates and takes two big steps forward. But lovely feet!
Haldis Naerum, floor: A Norwegian...Double pike, small hop back. Double turn. Double tuck, hands down. Front layout full.
Yao Jinnan, vault: DTY, well done, just moved one foot.
Laura Waem, bars: Weiler half to Maloney. Bail to toe hecht. Impressively high Tkatchev. Full twisting double back. The Belgians have some good barworkers!
Mai Murakami, floor: Double layout, well done, small hop back. Double double tuck, another very good landing, just a tiny hop. Music is both very engaging and very Japanese. 1.5 to front layout full. She really reminds one of Shawn Johnson out there. The exact same body type. Triple turn. And great triple full to end! Floor finals, certainly.
Rudy Sandoval, bars: Jump to high, toe stalder to Tkatchev. Full pirouette. Bail to toe hecht to high. Full twisting double tuck (a bit low) with a step forward.
Lisa Ecker, floor: "In the Mood." Double pike to end.
Nicole Szabo, bars: Hit routine, but not a competitive one.
Anna Rodionova, floor: Full in tuck, stuck. 1.5 to double full. Illusion turn. Music is very traditionally Russian, and you could get into it by clapping a bit, though the audience here does not. Rodionova is quite a good dancer -- this is a very balletically choreographed piece, and she really does perform as though she's on a stage. Lands her double tuck low and puts her hands down, then covers by going right into her ending pose on her knees. Nice, but the judges won't be fooled. At least she's a Russian who makes an effort to cover her mistakes.
Karina Regidor, vault: Handspring front pike and FTY.
Rebecca Tunney, bars: Inbar Shaposh to Pak to Maloney to bail to Ray. Stalder full to full twisting double tuck. Impressive routine!
Elisabeth Seitz, beam: Front aerial, wobble. Bhs, layout. Switch half. Double pike. Hit routine from what I saw.
Ji Hye Sung, floor: 1.5 to double tuck. Full in pike. 12.7.
Jessica Lopez, bars: Jump to high, Pike Tkatchev to Pak. Maloney to bail to toe hecht to high. Blind to Jaeger, great. Full turn to Tkatchev and falls! Just cast out a little too far and couldn't grab the bar. Oh no! Great stuck double front after. What a shame!
Melany Cabrera, beam: Bhs, bhs, layout. Front aerial to scissone. Side somie. Switch, wolf.
Alessia Leolini, floor: Arabian double front, steps forward and OOB. Stylish, fast paced piece of music, well choreograhed for her. Full in tuck. Double pike. Switch ring. Carries on
Haldis Naerum, vault: FTY.
Demet Mutlu, bars: Tkatchev. Falls on something else.
Cintia Rodriguez, beam: Bhs, layout. Switch to split leap, wonderful toepoint! Side aerial, wobble but says on. Front aerial.
Paula Mejias, floor: Dramatic drums piece becomes a Turkish medley. Tidy full in tuck but takes one step OOB. Does the same on her Arabian double front second pass. Dismounts with a double tuck, and once again OOB. Shame because otherwise a terrific routine from this Puerto Rican.
Mai Murakami, vault: DTY with a step back. Lots of applause from the Japanese delegation, who are sitting right in front of vault. Does a second vault and lands it well, but I didn't see what it was...
Evangelina Plyta, bars: Inbar stalder, toe blind...nice Tkatchev to Gienger combo! Deltchev too? Bail to Ray. Comes off later in the routine, didn't see on what, but her swing was lovely. She;s one of the few gymnasts who doesn't wear grips. Full twisting double tuck dismount very close to the bar, makes the crowd gasp.
Paula Meijas, floor: 11.333.
Laura Waem, beam: Bhs to layout to two feet. Double tuck dismount. Believe it was a hit routine. She looks mightily relieved.
Lisa Ecker, vault: FTY with a hop back.
Yao Jinnan, bars: Very hit routine, but sans Mo salto. That should be in bar finals for sure.
Rudy Sandoval, beam: Businesslike hit routine with double full dismount from the Colombian.
Anna Rodionova, vault: FTY, well done. 13.933.
Lo Yu Ju, bars: Off on blind to Jaeger. Comes off again later after overbalancing a cast to handstand on the high bar. 8.3.
Nicole Szabo, beam: A South African in emerald green and gold, very pretty and fancy leo. 1.5 turn in wolf position. Bhs, layout and comes off. Side somie. Switch side. Switch. Barely avoids an overtime deduction by quickly doing a Gainer layout off the end.
Farida Shokry, beam: The 19-year-old student from Egypt shows a front somie, a bhs, layout, a switch to wolf, wobbles on a side aerial, a switch half, a nice front aerial to split jump combo, a full turn with leg at horizontal and finally a front layout full, stuck. Nice work.
Sung Ji Hye, vault: DTY, crashed.
Karla Torres, bars: Clear hip to full turn to Tkatchev. Pak, very nice. Shaposh. Overbalances a handstand on high bar and falls. She is a beautiful barworker, however.
Jessica Lopez, beam: Switch to Scissone. Bhs, bhs to two feet, layout to two feet, very good. And then comes off on a switch side! Oh, Jessica...front aerial, jump. Side aerial. Switch to side somie. 2.5 twist dismount, great landing, teensy hop. This is just not her day...
Makarena Pinto, floor: The Chilean mounts with a nice double pike. 1.5 to front layout full. Double tuck dismount.
Alessia Leolini, vault: Front pike half. Second vault is a Phelps.
Demet Mutlu, beam: At least one fall.
Cintia Rodriguez, floor: Wonderful hands, maybe the best hands in the competition. Her tumbling is not hard enough to be competitive -- second pass was a double full, albeit a very beautiful one -- but this is one of those routines that you just sit back and enjoy, difficulty be darned. Double pike to end.
Paul Meijas, vault: Wow -- goes for a Tsuk double full. Doesn't make it, but goes for it. Good for her!
Yu Minobe, bars: Tkatchev. Blind to Ono to Jaeger. Big form break on her bail, but keeps it going back to the high bar. Double front and just barely gets her feet under her to land it.
Laura Waem, floor: Rodrigo y Gabriela. 2.5 twist. Double pike, very clean. Switch to switch full. 1.5 to double full. Switch half. Double tuck, step back.
Ofir Nezer, vault: Handspring front tuck full. 14.3.
Lisa Ecker, bars: Hecht mount, blind to Jaeger, bail to toe full. Toe hecht to high, full turn, giant to double pike dismount.
Yao Jinnan, beam: Bhs, bhs to two feet, layout to two feet. Front aerial to sheep. Full turn with leg at head (actually 1.5 turn, though I don't think she meant to do that.) Switch ring. Double pike dismount with a small step.
Rudy Sandoval, floor: "Step Up." 2.5 twist to end.
Anna Rodionova, bars: Inbar full, kip to Maloney to Pak. Toe Khorkina II to high (fingertip catch) toe blind to Jaeger, a bit of form, also on her Tkatchev. Really has to pull to get her full twisting double tuck around and seems to hang in the air and twist in slow motion, but actually makes a really good landing. Bet it's not like that in practice all the time, however.
Lo Yu Ju, beam: Off on bhs, layout. Front layout full. She looks very disappointed as she leaves the podium.
Rebecca Tunney, beam: Off on roundoff, layout to two feet. Big wobble on switch half as well. Side aerial. Double pike. 12.2.
Farida Shokry, floor: Appropriately Arabian-themed medley for the Egyptian. Double turn with leg at horizontal. Double pike. 1.5 to front layout full. She has very proper form on everything she does. Hands down on her double tuck third pass, unfortunately.
Karina Regidor, bars: 10.766.
Elisabeth Seitz, floor: Her new routine! Vaguely Mexican piece. Full in pike, good landing! 1.5 to double tuck, steps back and OOB I think. Oops. 2.5 and stumbles OOB with both feet. The Germans are clapping along as she nears her last pass. Double pike to end. Very good routine aside from those two landings...
Cintia Rodriguez, vault: Yurchenko layout.
Alessia Leolini, bars: Maloney. Ricna, not bad. Toe Tkatchve. Bail to toe hecht to high. Blind, front giant. Full turn. Double layout with a step forward.
Haldis Naerum, beam: Gainer pike off the end.
Demet Mutlu, floor: Very Turkish beat. Roundoff, double tuck first pass. 11.658.
Laura Waem, vault: FTY to warm applause.
Ji Hye Sung, bars: Inbar full to Tkatchev. Inbar blind to pike Jaeger. Lovely Pak to stalder full, very nice. Ray. Full twisting double tuck dismount but two fairly big steps on the landing due to underrotation.
Yu Minobe, beam: Side somie,. Onodi, small wobble, switch to back tuck. Hands down on double pike dismount, alas for her...
Yao Jinnan, floor: Triple full to single stag jump. Double pike, rather big step back. Does a bit of chicken dance in the center of the floor...2.5 to front pike. Double tuck.
Lisa Ecker, beam: Side aerial. Comes off on handstand step down, bhs, layout. Full turn with leg at horizontal, lowers her leg a little quickly, but no wobble. Tourjete half. Front aerial, small check. Side somie. Switch. Double full, nice landing.
Anna Rodionova, beam: Nails her bhs, Arabian. Front aerial, looked like she wanted to connect it to something but then stops. Side aerial, side somie. Full turn with leg at horizontal. Wonderful form and extension. And STUCK double tuck! Well! That should make finals. Runs off the podium rather excitedly and receives a kiss from her coach. Great work.
Rebecca Tunney, floor: Whip to Arabian double front, small step on landing but quite good. Full in pike second pass, that one a little short but nothing serious. Triple spin. Tunney has made great strides in the past 12 months when it comes to form and line and such. 1.5 to 2.5, stuck. This new routine is jazzy and suits her style of movement. Double pike, small hop. Good end for her day.
Farida Shorky, vault: Yurchenko layout.
Karina Regidor, beam: Has to grab the beam to save her roundoff, layout to two feet. One foot comes off the beam on her punch front that follows, but she doesn't flinch. That also is a candidate for save of the subdivision...Side somie. Switch to back tuck, where her shoulders are offline but she's just not coming off the beam! Impressive. Dismount was either a Gainer off the end of a front layout full.
Jessica Lopez, floor: Excellent stuck triple full to begin. Double pike. Some lovely modern dance moves in this new routine, a more classical, lyrical piece than she's chosen in the past. Double full. 2.5 twist to end. Very, very nice.
Elisabeth Seitz, vault: DTY with step forward. She did it a bit better in warmups and can do it better.
Makarena Pinto, vault: Yurchenko layout.
Karla Torres, beam: She will close out this subdivision, and the first day of women's qualification. Switch half, bobble and wobble but stays on. Side aerial. Bhs, layout, small wobble. Switch side. Off on punch front. Switch to back tuck. Double pike.
