Quick hits: Women's Open Finals at the Canadian Nationals (13-15 age division)

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, 5:35 p.m.: The Open division, Canada's answer to level 10 in the U.S., is in the spotlight this afternoon. For finals, the Open Division is actually split into two age groups -- 13-15 and 16 and up. The 13-15-year-olds are warming up now, and the 16-and-overs will go tomorrow morning. Both sessions will be liveblogged here on Examiner.com.

Rotation one

Sarah-Maude Lachance, vault: Yurchenko pike, really nice in the air but rolled out of it due to overrotation.

Kaitlyn Clark, bars: Off on low bar clear hip. Double pike dismount with a step back.

Amanda Belcastro, beam: Switch, scissone. Bhs, layout, steps back but saves it. Switch side. Comes off on side aerial.

Cassie Feehan, floor: The Prince Edward Island gymnast gets a big ovation as she's announced...Punch front to 1.5 twist to open. Switch, switch wolf. Front layout second pass. In a very pretty emerald green leotard with a simple smattering of rhinestones on the bodice. Double twist, steps OOB with both feet, alas.

Marie-Jeanne Fortier, vault: Yurchenko pike, very well done, small hop back. Very impressive when gymnasts manage to keep their legs together and toes pointed on this vault.

Maya Rahn, bars: Bits of form here and there, but a hit routine with a double full dismount, stuck. One of the few gymnasts here not using grips...

Abby Murrin, beam: Bhs, layout to two feet, a little shuffle but well done. Side aerial, small check. Front aerial. Switch, check, to back tuck. Jumps. Front full off to good landing. Hit routine.

Madeleine Arbuckle, floor: Double tuck, very nice. Very nice form in her dance. Punch front to full twist. Switch side. 1.5 twist to end, small step back.

Haley Brannon, vault: Yurchenko pike, well done, small small hop on the landing.

Allison Stamp, bars: Stops after toe shoot to high to dead hang. Other than that though, it was a hit routine.

Andry Friesen, beam: Back pike, nice. Bhs, back tuck, very well done! Jumps. Off on side aerial! Too bad, she was totally hitting up to that point.

Marie Sonderegger, floor: She is a little tiny girl...double full. Jazzy music. Switch, Tsuk half. Stuck her last pass, though I didn't see what it was.

Lea-Mei Chicoine, vault: Yurchenko pike, nearly stuck.

Tamara Kuno, bars: Toe stalder, toe hecht to high, blind to front giant to half turn to giants and stuck full twisting double tuck! Very nice routine for Kuno.

Monica Ouellet, beam: Press handstand mount to double stag position in planche, very nice. Switch, wolf, needs more amplitude on the switch.

Chelsea Wilson, floor: Didn't see the opening pass. Handspring front layout second pass. Salsa music. Punch front full third pass.

Gabriella Douglas, vault: Yurchenko layout, very well done.

Laura Lucas, bars: Jump to high, struggle on opening giant, Pak legs apart but swings well enough out of it. Toe shoot to high...double pike with a small hop. Hit routine.

Julie Beatson, beam: Didn't see it.

Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, vault: At Oakville Gymnastics, they call Silvia Colussi-Pelaez's younger sister "Pinky," which is fitting since today she is in a sleeveless light pink leotard with purple and white details. Pinky, says Kelly Manjak, is not much like her inquisitive older sister -- Silvia asks a lot of questions, while Pinky is much quieter. She does two Yurchenko pikes to good landings with small steps, but she hesitates a bit between the board and the horse, even though she make the vault.

Kiana Amiot, bars: Jump to high, blind to Jaeger, clear hip to Pak, toe hecht to high, giants to double tuck with a hop forward.

Madison Faulkner, beam: Switch, split. Almost comes off on punch front but saves it. Back tuck. Side aerial, small check....dismount is full twisting front layout.

Rotation two:

Madeleine Arbuckle, vault: Yurchenko layout.

Marie-Jeanne Fortier, bars: Pak. toe stalder, toe shoot to high, blind to half turn, double pike dismount with a small hop. Great routine.

Maya Rahn, beam: Jump to handstand. Side somie. Bhs, layout, very bent legs on both skills. Full turn. Side aerial, bent legs again. She has great lines and potential to be very artistic, so the bent legs are surprising. Jumps.

Andry Friesen, floor: Double full to begin. Dancing to a Middle Eastern medley. Switch side. Double turn. Tourjete half. Front handspring, front layout full, very nicely done

Haley Brannon, bars: Clear hip to tow stalder to toe hecht to high, full turn, blind to front giant to front layout half twist dismount, stuck. Well done.

Allison Stamp, beam: Off on side aerial. Back tuck. Full turn, wobble. Bhs, layout, wobble but saves it. Wolf, split. Bhs stepout to stuck double full dismount.

Abby Murrin, floor: Double tuck, OOB. Very jazzy piece of music, the same used by Carly Patterson in 2003-2004. Full twist to double full, both feet OOB. Front layout full. Full turn with leg at head. 2.5 twist to end, small step forward. 11.775.

Chelsea Wilson, vault: Missed it.

Lea-Mei Chicoine, bars: Jump to high to bail to clear hip to toe hecht to high, full turn toi giant to double pike, steps back.

Tamara Kuno, beam: Roll on mount. Full turn with leg up. Bhs, layout, little wobble but is OK. Side somie, same thing. Wolf jump, split jump. Double full dismount.

Monica Ouellet, floor: Double tuck, deep squat and steps back. Whip through to full. Swtch, Tourjete.

Gabriella Douglas, bars: Jump to high bail to low, toe stalder to toe hecht to high, Tkatchev catches her left foot on the bar but does not stop her swing, double pike with a tiny hop.

Laura Lucas, beam: Switch, wolf. Long pause before bhs, layout and long fight to save it, but comes off. Back tuck. Full turn with leg up.

Julie Beatson, floor: Front handspring, front layout full.

Cassie Feehan, vault: Tsuk tuck, small step back.

Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, bars: Jump to high, Tkatchev, good, toe stalder to giant to bail legs apart to toe hecht, giant full to giants to double layout with big step forward.

Kiana Amiot, beam: Front aerial, back tuck, small check. Bhs, layout, small check that turns into a pose, nice. Switch side, needs a little more amplitude. Good side aerial. Full turn, smooth. Running Rudi dismount, chest low but impressive!

Madison Faulkner, floor: Double tuck, stuck! Great. Last pass is punch front to full twist. Very nice form on her skills. 1.5 twist, stuck again. Good for her!

Sarah-Maude Lachance, bars: Clear hip to toe hecht to high and misses the bar. Whoops. She looked like she had enough to catch it -- maybe it was just a concentration thing? Repeats the skill easily. Full turn, blind, front giant, front toe stalder! (a little hesitation) and good dismount. Too bad about the fall.

Kaitlyn Clark, beam: Swing through mount. Front aerial, not enough rotation and actually sits down on the beam and falls. Switch side, a bit of form. Back tuck, bhs combo, small wobble. Full turn with leg at head. Switch, split. Impressive double full dismount to end, nearly stuck.

Amanda Belcastro, floor: Double turn. Double tuck, overrotates to her bottom. Switch, switch side. A classical piece that suits her style well. 1.5 to punch front. Full turn with leg up into a dance sequence down on the floor. Front handspring, front layout full to her bottom -- not enough height.

Rotation three:

Andry Friesen, vault: Yurchenko layout to a really good landing. She looks very pleased with that.

Marie Sonderegger, bars: Toe shoot to high, stops on high bar, then comes off on front giant. Layout full dismount.

Haley Brannon, beam: Switch side I believe, to start off. Bhs, layout and comes off. Side aerial, off again. Switch, scissone. Punch front, saves it. Double full dismount.

Allison Stamp, floor: Drum music...Good high double tuck to nice landing. Double turn. Front layout into corner. 1.5 to 2.5 twist! Nice! Switch, switch side, needs a little more split...

Monica Ouellet, vault: Yuchenko layout.

Chelsea Wilson, bars: Toe stalder to Ray, but stops on high bar later in the routine...

Lea-Mei Chicoine, beam: Switch, scissone. Comes off on front aerial. Bhs, layout, great save! This one has a lot of potential, and big skills. Side somie. Side aerial, really nice. Moves like a far more mature gymnast. Roundoff, 1.5 twist dismount.

Tamara Kuno, floor: Cool opening pose...lovely dance before tumbling. Roundoff, 1.5 twist. Punch front through to layout full. Pretty leap. Front layout full. Full turn with leg at head. Leap series. Double full with step back to end.

Julie Beatson, vault: Yurchenko pike, step back.

Tristyn Sitarz, bars: Very long wait to begin her routine here...Jump to high, bail to toe stalde to toe hecht to high, full turn, blind, half turn, double pike dismount. Good routine.

Gabriella Douglas, beam: They call her "Ella" in the stands, and she has had a long wait to perform...swing through mount. Double turn to full turn, really well done! Lovely switch half. Comes off on something later in the routine, didn't see what, and also takes a large step on her dismount, which appeared to be an underrotated double twist?

Laura Lucas, floor: Double tuck, rather low landing but covers well. Switch, switch side. Layout half? to punch front, tidy landing. 1.5 twist with a step forward to end. High five from her coach.

Madison Faulkner, vault: Handspring fron tuck, nearly stuck, well done. Second vault is a handspring front pike to her bottom. Not even close to her feet, unfortunately.

Cassie Feehan, bars: Didn't see it.

Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, beam: Lovely press handstand to single stag position mount crosswise to the beam. Switch, back tuck, excellent. Front aerial, wobble. Bhs, layout and comes off. Wolf, scissone. Just lovely on this event, in dance and technique. Side somie. Double full with a step back.

Kiana Amiot, floor: Double pike. 1.5 to punch front. Double full to end.

Abby Murrin, vault: Didn't see it.

Madeleine Arbuckle, bars: Hit routine with double tuck dismount.

Sarah-Maude Lachance, beam: Lovely press mount. Front aerial. Off on side aerial. Back tuck, small check, bhs. Wonderful toepoint. Sheep. Walks into a roundoff, 1.5 twist dismount.

Kaitlyn Clark, floor: Double pike, hands down. Front layout, punch front, stuck. Spanish music. Switch, switch side. Double full to end.

Amanda Belcastro, vault: Didn't see it.

Marie-Jeanne Fortier, beam: Press to planche, lower to middle splits. Switch, scissone. Front aerial. Bhs, layout, way off on the shoulders but somehow manages to stay on the beam. She has very balletic lines and toepoint. Roundoff, 1.5 twist with a hop.

Maya Rahn, floor: Double pike, OOB. Competes to a languid "Pink Panther." Double tuck with a hop forward to end. Nice routine. Great look on floor.

Rotation four:

Tamara Kuno, vault: Nice Yurchenko layout.

Monica Ouellet, bars: Jump to high, bail to clear hip to toe hecht to high, blind to front giant, half turn to giant full, sticks the dismount.

Chelsea Wilson, beam: Switch. Front somie to back tuck, well done. Full turn with leg up. Comes off on punch front.

Lea-Mei Chicoine, floor: Double pike, two steps back and OOB. Running front layout full. Switch, Tourjete half. Punch front through to 1.5 twist. Bouncy double full.

Laura Lucas, vault: Yurchenko pike, sits down due to overrotation. Fortunately she gets a second, and the first won't count. "I wish they would do that for us," one of the Oakville elite girls behind me remarks. Yikes -- she doesn't get the block she needs and doesn't do a flip out of the Yurchenko, goes to her back.

Julie Beatson, bars: Missed it.

Gabriella Douglas, floor: Double pike. Front through to double twist -- too much energy, and steop OOB. Switch half. Fast paced violin music. 2.5 turn, fell out of it a bit. Double tuck, pulls it around. A gymnast with a nice mix of power and artistry -- good skills, cleanly performed throughout the day.

Kiana Amiot, vault: Yurchenko layout.

Madison Faulkner, bars: Didn't see most of it.

Cassie Feehan, beam: Missed it.

Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, floor: Awesome opening pose -- an elbow stand. Double pike, underrotated and puts her hand down. 1.5, a little slow, pulls around the double full after it. Switch, switch half, hesitant. Good 2.5 twist to end. Appears to be in pain as she comes off the mat, but is walking OK...

Kaitlyn Clark, vault: Yurchenko pike with steps.

Amanda Belcastro, bars: Missed it.

Madeleine Arbuckle, beam: Off on bhs, layout.

Sarah-Maude Lachance, floor: Sheep before she tumbles...Double tuck, deep squat on landing but OK. 2.5 with a step forward. Switch side. Punch front through to 1.5 twist. Double twist to end.

Maya Rahn, vault: Yurchenko layout, nice.

Abby Murrin, bars: Clear hip to toe shoot to high, blind, struggled to make front giant (legs), fell to her hands and knees on dismount.

Marie Sonderegger, beam: A bit wild on full turn. Switch, split. Off on side aerial. Off again, but didn't see on what. Double twist dismount.

Marie-Jeanne Fortier, floor: Double tuck, cowboyed but well landed. Front layout, punch front, small hop. A jazzy take on an old classic here -- this is the music Vanessa Atler used from 1998-1999 but totally jazzified...switch, switch half. Double full. Nice presentation in this routine.

Allison Stamp, vault: Tsuk half twist, nice.

Andry Friesen, bars: Jump to high, bail, toe hecht to high, full turn, double tuck with a step back.

Haley Brannon, floor: Double tuck. Punch front through to double full. Switch half. Nice dancerish style emerging here...2.5 twist, landed with her shoulders back and sat down. Too bad!
