Following on Climategate and the questions about the actions of some of the world’s top scientists, it has just been revealed that New Zealand’s climate records may have been improperly modified to support the global warming theory. Analysis of data from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) show ‘corrections’ to climate data may have exaggerated temperature increases over the last 130 years.
The New Zealand Climate Science Coalition says that a comparison of corrected data versus the actual recorded measurements shows stark contrasts.
In describing the modification that NIWA made to the climate records, the coalition said, “The shocking truth is that the oldest readings have been cranked way down and later readings artificially lifted to give a false impression of warming, as documented below. There is nothing in the station histories to warrant these adjustments and to date Dr Salinger and NIWA have not revealed why they did this.”
The official temperature record as provided by NIWA shows an upward temperature trend starting in 1900 with consistently above average temperatures being realized in the last 15 years. The net result is a claimed 0.92° C per century temperature rise.
However, if the raw data from stations is plotted, temperatures are shown to have remained quite stable. In fact a negligible 0.06° C per century temperature rise was seen.
The adjustments the NIWA made were to seven official weather stations. For six of the stations, temperatures were adjusted upwards from 0.40° C to 0.87° C. Only one was decreased. Overall, the 0.92° C increase exceeds the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) estimate for the entire earth of a 0.6° C temperature increase.
The reasons for the modifications were unclear and undocumented by NIWA. The corrections were unusually strong and the coalition said they could discover no reason to make such large adjustments.
In a statement, the coalition said, “We have discovered that the warming in New Zealand over the past 156 years was indeed man-made, but it had nothing to do with emissions of CO2—it was created by man-made adjustments of the temperature. It’s a disgrace.”

Ones moral duty to their politics should never be reason to commit fruad.. This is far beyound personal belief and deep into brick and mortor fraud and deception.. The MSM is as guilty as their friends for not doing their jobs..
The smoothed line in the NZ Climate Science Coalition plot looks like a standard unweighted running mean to me. This not only misrepresents the amplitude of the smoothed peaks and troughs, but displaces them with respect to the raw data. Strictly speaking both graphs are at fault since you should always identify your smoother.
All long station records like this suffer from the sort of inhomogeneity described. Adjustment is essential. I remember seeing a remarkable rain gauge record in India, with a sudden sharp increase in rainfall - observed at no adjacent station. It turned out that they'd sacked the guy taking the readings, so he urinated in the gauge before he left!
The NZ climate science association made this up. They have connections to Dr. Fred Singer, he is famous for the Leipzig declaration, a document stating that scientists DO NOT agree on global warming. He has a lot of close ties to the oil companies, that's what this revolves around. The oil companies don't want competition from alternative energy.
The denialists need a straw to grasp. Let them have this one. It is as fruitful as the last one. Last 10. 100.

You forget the medieval warm period and the maunder minimum which was proven fraudulant but again has been proven fraudulent.
As for CO2 being a positive feedback mechanism this is clearly false. Proxy data shows periods in earths history where CO2 reached levels topping 7000ppm but climate remained normal with the exception of ice ages. This clearly demonstrates that co2 does not create +ve feedback. So where is your argument?
In the 70's the polar bear population was 5000 and now it is over 25000 and now they're endangered! thats logical.
Scott-Amundsen original base camp is below 30Ft of compacted snow and ice and the antarctic is expanding at such a rate that great chunks are breaking off as never before.

I love that "The oil companies fund the skeptics" line. Unfortunately the greens are really stupid. The oil companies are funding AGW reseach (if you could call it research). At least the oil companies are not supid. They know they will make more money when the prices go up. They are not going to be hurt. The consumer is.
You would think that if the stations need adjustment it would be the same amount every year. If they had done that, the shape would still be the same. But they did not.

There has never been a better time to for people around the world to stand up and say “enough is enough” with this crap. Spain has “tanked” their economy in pursuit of the AGW doctrine and Europe is not far behind. They should be the first to file lawsuits against the UN’s IPCC and those individuals involved to recover lost investments from the IMF until both are broken to the ground for this crime.

I do not think that oil Co's part funding was ever really an issue but it was made into one.
