Question and answer with pro BMX racer Karsten Millman

Karsten, wanna talk about your first Canadian BMX race of 2011. Where is it?

My first planned Canadian race for 2011 will be in Abbotsford on June 4-5. (part of the BC BMX Cup Series also designated as UCI class 4 and 5 events respectively)   I'm pretty stoked on this race as I have been more focused on my training then ever.

How have you prepared?

For the past two months I have been training on my own down here in Las Vegas, building my own programs and pushing myself to my limits, spending my days either on my bike or in the gym.

Just recently I was given a chance of a life time, Elite Training Source hooked me up with a sweet Canadian sponsorship, so they have been working on a training program that is designed to make sure I peak at every race I hit.

So far the program looks amazing, they did a really good job. I'm stoked on repping the Elite Training Source Jersey along side good coaches and my good buddy.

Goals for this year?

My goals for this year are simple, just stay consistent.

What will you own this year?

Main in every Canadian Race for 2011, walk up to every single gate with the same mindset and winning attitude, and just be an inspiration to the younger kids in BMX.

Where do you live in Vegas?

I live in Henderson, it's about 20 minutes from the strip. It's my parent's vacation home, and I just move in every once and awhile in the winter when I get the urge to ride a track. It was a close call coming here this year, almost couldn't afford the flight.

What's the local track like and what pros do you see there? How much do you race there?

Down here I race as much as I can at ABA races, but unfortunately it costs so much to get to these races without funding and (major)sponsorship, but I do what I can, save up every dollar I get just to get the experience.

Locally, they don't allow pros to race unless everyones willing to pay an extra few bucks.  Unless theres a few guys out here feeling really lucky, I don't get to race much.  But when I do get to race locally, it's a good hustle- I mean it is Vegas.

Local tracks in Las Vegas are awesome, the people are awesome, and you know once you get there that theres gonna be about five other guys that are just as fast as you on the track that are gonna try to push you to go as fast as you can. It's rad.

Pick one sprints, squats, sit ups:

I like sprints, cause its extra time in the gym. Squats just hurt the butt after and sit-ups suck haha.

Elite training, that's with James Ash(30 and over expert) from Airdrie? I hear he's into tabatas...

Yep, Rachelle Haight is my coach putting together the programs, and James Ash is hooking up the website. I'm not sure what tabatas are.. but they sound like they hurt from what I Googled.

Also maybe if you can mention the sponsors site that would be rad.  Thanks!  Elite Training Source
