The summer heat is nothing to think lightly on. If thirst strikes, be prepared to quench it with some healthy liquids. Though water would be great, sometimes people don't want something so bland so here's an alternative: use natural fruit juices. This recipe will yield a gallon of all-natural drinking that is sweet all on its own.

The strawberries will provide sweetness, especially if they are large and ripe. The watermelon can have seeds but remember to to remove them prior to pureeing lest there be shattered pieces of seeds inside the drink; this melon serves as the base for the drink as it is very porous and full of liquid. Basil always pairs well with strawberry so it gives the drinks a special touch in this. Fresh basil is key and for the sweeter style, go with the Italian Sweet Basil which is most commonly the one in grocery stories. The lime then rounds out the whole drink by giving a little hint of citrus but if that is not your or your guests' style, feel free to omit it.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb strawberries, ripe
  • 5 lbs seedless watermelon, rind removed
  • 1/2 cup basil, fresh
  • 3 medium limes, juice only

Directions

  1. Very easy - puree all ingredients together!
