Queen Silvia takes heat for parenting decision

HM Queen Silvia of Sweden is taking some criticism this week after some comments she made around her parenting style.  The Queen was sharing her worries to SvD about teenage drug use and underage drinking.  The discussion turned to her way of dealing with her own children’s growing up.  HM the Queen highlighted the importance of getting to know the parents of her children’s friends:“If we knew each other we could share the same principle rules and guide the kids the same way.”  Later in the conversation she discussed her attitude when the kids got curious about alcohol.  At the time, the Queen talked it over with the other parents and they came to the conclusion to let the kids try it: “Some thought 'Well, they're confirmed so of course they're allowed some wine'. Others said 'No, we really don't think that's a good idea' and others said 'Perhaps one glass'”.  The group of parents agreed to give the kids a glass of wine to let them try it.  There appears to have now been some backlash, as one would expect from such a public statement, questioning the wisdom about letting teenagers try alcohol at such a young age.  Regardless of the mixed feedback – Queen Silvia appears to have done a good job, with the King, of raising her three children.
