Queen of romance, Danielle Steel, publishes 108th book while running a charitable foundation

Danielle Steel, Queen of Romance

The Queen of Romance is most definitely Danielle Steel. She was featured on Good Morning America yesterday about her recently published novel Matters of the Heart. Matters of the Heart is the 108th book that Danielle Steel has published and one of the many that is bound to hit the New York Times Best Seller List. In fact, the Guinness Book of World Records listed her for having at least one of her books on the New York Times Best Seller list for 381 weeks in a row but Guinness jumped the gun because her novels were on the list for 390 weeks.

Ms. Steel's novels range in variety to hot, steamy romance to nail-biting, heart wrenching real life stories that can make you weep while trying to turn the page. In her interview on GMA she stated that she knows a book will be good if she can't stop writing it. And it should be noted that Ms. Steele still uses a typewriter to create all her works of literature.

In 2002, the French government decorated Danielle Steel with the title "Officier" of the Order of Arts and Letters. This is the second highest ranking position in the order and was given to Ms. Steel for her lifetime contribution to world culture.

Along with writing, Danielle Steel is involved with many philantropic endeavours. The Nick Traina Foundation was founded by her and is run by her. It is named after her late son Nick Traina and gives funds to organizations that seek cures and treatments for mental illnesses and try to prevent and stop child abuse.

Ms. Steel's involvement with charity came because of her son's mental illness. Nick was a manic depressive who suffered from bipolar disease and eventually ended his life by suicide. The foundation was created as a legacy to her son in the hopes of helping those suffering from mental illness, offering assistance and treatment to those needing it and battling all forms of mental illness by supporting research endeavours.

Danielle Steel wrote the book "His Bright Light" which is about her son's life in 2000. The book is available through Delacorte Press. All proceeds from the sale of "His Bright Light" will go to The Nick Traina Foundation.

I've never heard of "His bright light", but it sounds like a read I would enjoy. Great information on an amazing lady.

Great little article about a writer I've never read. I'll have to read some of her stuff though, she must be doing something right!
