Queen Margrethe holds New Year's Levee (Photos)

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark held her New Year's Levee at the Christian VII Palace on January 3, 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Joined by her husband, Prince Consort Henrik of Denmark, her son Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian wife Crown Princess Mary, Queen Margrethe welcomed the New Year with her subjects in attendance.

For her New Year's Levee Queen Margrethe II wore a navy gown, topped off with a full-length dark brown fur coat. She accessorized with her several diamond brooches associated with the royal House of Denmark and a pair of fashionable pointed loafers.

Prince Consort Henrik looked resplendent in his gold braided uniform, plumed hat and ceremonial saber over the left hip. He too was bedecked with several diamond brooches.

Next came Crown Prince Frederik in uniform with gold epaulets and his Tasmanian wife Crown Princess Mary, looking lovely in her heather grey gown with three-quarter sleeved cardigan. The elephant brooch worn over her turquoise sash was an unusual touch but adorable!

This January 14, Queen Margrethe II will be celebrating her forty-first year on the throne. Among her many talents, Margrethe II is an accomplished painter and illustrator, designs her own clothes (known for her love of color!) and has designed costumes for the Royal Danish Ballet.

Take a look at the slideshow of Queen Margrethe II’s New Year Levee. Hope the pictures are clear – though the castle seems dimly lit – mood lighting!
