'Queen Margot' 20th anniversary edition released by Cohen today

Good news for fans of the 1994 classic "Queen Margot," the Cohen Film Collection just released today, Aug. 26, the 20th anniversary edition of the movie. It's currently on DVD at Amazon for $25.98 and for the Blu-ray edition the movie is $33.98. For those who want an digital edition there is an option for that on iTunes, it's $19.99.

The Cohen edition gave it a special 4k Director's Cut Restoration that boasts an edition that has not been seen in the U.S. The newly edition is 159 minutes. Upon its released, "Queen Margot" gained 5 Cesar Awards (the equivalent to the U.S. Academy Award) and it won at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.

The historical drama is about the relationship of Marguerite de Valois, Henri de Navarre and their political marriage during the Wars of Religion. Also it shows the affair between Margot and the solider, La Mole, and the violence that ensues around them. At times "Queen Margot" is a passionate love story and at other times, it becomes a bloody battle of survival between royals and commoners. The movie is based on the historical novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas.

Patrice Chereau had been the one that directed this French classic. Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil, Pascal Greggory, Vincent Perez, and Virna Lisi starred in the sweeping period drama. The film currently holds a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 stars out of 10 on IMDb.
