Hau'oli La Hanau! A Birthday celebration fit for Her Royal Highness Mo'i Wahine, Queen Lydia Kamaka'eha Kaola Mali'i Lili'uokalani was celebrated by many in the Hawaiian community yesterday, September 5, 2010 at Iolani Palace in Honolulu.
Many groups performed Mele Inoa, dances in honor of Hawai'i's last Queen, Lili'uokalani. Participants included Tracie and Keawe Lopes Hula Halau dance group, Ka La 'Onohi Mai O Ha'eha'e. All dancers danced the hula with such grace, their expressions delighted the crowd of a few hundred on the front lawn of 'Iolani Palace in the heart of Downtown Honolulu.
The event was paired together with the monthy Kama'aina Sundays free to local residents of Hawai'i with valid identification cards.
Queen Lili'uokalani left so much behind for her people despite the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, her legacy lives on in her trust that benefits orphaned Native Hawaiian Children. This day surely was blessed and reserved to honor a special life that embraces all of Hawai'i even till this day.
