Queen Latifah, Willow Smith, Jill Scott perform ‘Still I Rise’ on BET Honors

The night of celebration included Dr. Maya Angelou who was awarded at the BET Honors in literary arts category. One of the most moving tributes on Monday night  had to be when Queen Latifah, Willow Smith, Jill Scott and Cicely Tyson performed  Dr. Angelou’s poem Still I Rise.

Each entertainer recited a portion of the poem on stage giving a glimpse into the meaning of the emotion that came with the verses that were expressed. Even Willow Smith started first and  with her young presence on stage shared the focus of the moment. All of the performers really  gave an empowering verbal gift as the soft spoken word was genuine and heart felt.

The celebration of the written word was one aspect of the BET Honors 2012 which included awards given out for musical arts, literary arts, entertainer, media, service, and education. Sharing the best of 2012, the individuals who were honored offered exceptional contributions to society and BET wanted their audience to know how much of an impact was made by the entertainers.
