Queen Latifah wants more diversity on '30 Rock'

Queen Latifah, who has appeared in both feature films ("Set It Off," "Chicago"), and television sitcoms ("Living Single," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"), is demanding that Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin add more diversity to their hit primetime show.

Tonight, Queen Latifah guest stars on "30 Rock" as Congresswoman Regina Bookman.  In the episode entitled "Let's Stay Together," Jack (Baldwin) must appear before Congress to discuss NBC’s merger with KableTown. He hopes that he will charm celebrity members (guest star Rob Reiner), but Latifah's Bookman hits him with a hard truth--Jack's programming lineup is a little too white.

Jack then enlists Tracy (Tracy Morgan) to come up with a few unique development ideas to appease Bookman.  And considering that Tracy is both unpredictable and inappropriate, this likely won't end well.

    Who made her casting director?

What is worse not having a diverse cast or having a token representative?

While shows should represent the diversity of the world they are set in, token representation seems worse.

When I moved to Arkansas after HS, the local HS had an unwritten policy of alternating the races of the homecoming queen each year. To me this was more racist than just prohibiting them.

It made it seem like someone who was "not-white" couldn't win against a white contestant.. even in a predominately Black school.

I addressed Racism, Glenn Beck, and Mark Twain in today's Twain Examiner column. Like I say in there, I truly hope that some day we can all become educated past race and racism can truly become a thing of the past.
