Queen Elizabeth II hospitalized for stomach bug: Better safe than sorry

CNN reports today that Queen Elizabeth II has been hospitalized today after experiencing symptoms of gastroenteritis according to a Buckingham palace spokesman.

On Saturday, the eighty-six year old British monarch was forced to cancel an appearance at a military celebration in Swansea marking St. David’s Day, the national day of Wales.

It was reported yesterday that the Queen was “spending the weekend in Windsor as usual” but apparently the palace decided to err on the side of caution by admitting her to the hospital.

The Queen is expected to stay at London’s King Edward VII Hospital for a couple of days at this point and a spokesman for the palace states, “She has been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.”

Her trip to Rome which was scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday has been officially cancelled. The Queen was planning on meeting Italy’s president Giorgio Napolitano with her husband Prince Philip will need to be rescheduled to her illness.

You can bet that England’s best of the best will be keeping a close eye on their treasure.
