Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has canceled an engagement for Monday, because she is still getting over the gastroenteritis that put her in the hospital last week. Reports the Inquisitr on Monday, March 11, “The queen will regrettably no longer attend the Commonwealth observance at Westminster Abbey today as she continues to recover following her recent illness.” But no problem. Her husband, Prince Phillip, will be there to cover for her.
The three-day hospital stay marks the first time in 10 years the British monarch has spent the night in a medical facility. The Queen is generally healthy and hardy. This particular illness was not serious, except that any debilitating sort of sickness can be deadly to someone who is in her 80s, and Queen Elizabeth is 86. And everyone who has experienced a bout of gastroenteritis, better known as “stomach flu,” knows it is exhausting.
The Queen has cut back on foreign travel in recent years. Visiting other parts of the United Kingdom used to be a big part of her life, and everyone knows she became queen while she was sleeping in a tree-supported hotel in Africa.
But now she has Prince William and Kate Middleton to travel for her. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have already taken two lengthy trips abroad, representing the family, and they are sure to take more, once the coming baby is old enough.
In the meantime, Queen Elizabeth continues to recover, and she is expected to attend other public functions, later this week.
