HM Queen Elizabeth and her only daughter HRH the Princess Royal, held a rare join event on Friday at Sandringham. The event was on behalf of the Woodland Trust project who is aiming to plant six million trees as part of the Jubilee Wood project. HRH the Princess Royal is patron of the Woodland Trust project. HM the Queen planted a young oak tree to kick off a newly planned 20-acre forest while she jokingly commented, “there is nothing between here and Siberia.” The Princess Royal spoke of the history of the trees on Sandringham Estate planted to mark various royal occasions:
“I literally grew-up with those trees and there is something very special about growing up with them. This is a rather special moment.”
The Woodland Trust wants to create 60 new 60-acre woods all over the country, and so far has locked in 45 of them. Also at the event with the two royals were students from nearby schools Sandringham, West Newton, and Flitcham
