Queen Elizabeth held her usual annual Christmas Day message (Dec. 25) to the Commonwealth calling for quiet reflection in 2014. The Queen also told her people to look forward to the future, referring to her new grandson, Prince George.

The Queen's annual Christmas message is always a personal one that the Queen writes and delivers on Christmas day. This year's message called for quiet reflection in the coming year with the Queen saying, "Be it through contemplation, prayer, or even keeping a diary, many have found the practice of quiet personal reflection surprisingly rewarding."

The Queen also reflected on the past 60 years as the Monarch of the Commonwealth nations, a total of 53 countries. She has played many roles during her reign, from leader of the Commonwealth to peacemaker around the world. Queen Elizabeth had this to say about the anniversary of her 60th year of reign, "The anniversary reminded me of the remarkable changes that have occurred since the coronation, many of them for the better; and of the things that have remained constant, such as the importance of family, friendship and good neighbourliness."

Queen Elizabeth also mentioned her new great-grandson, Prince George, in her Christmas Day message. Prince George is third in line for the throne behind his father (William) and grandfather (Charles). She stated that Prince George will lead a lifetime of service and duty to his nation. Queen Elizabeth was raised to be a leader and her great-grandson will follow in the Royal footsteps.
