Queen Anne Book Company announces March 1 grand opening

Seattle has a new bookstore coming to town! Queen Anne Book Company, a new independent bookstore owned by Janis Segress and Judy and Krijn de Jonge, will celebrate its grand opening on March 1, 2013.

Queen Anne Book Company will open at 1811 Queen Anne Avenue North in Seattle, the same location as the former Queen Anne Books, which closed its doors on October 31, 2012. The owner of Queen Anne Books, Katharine Hershey, did not find a buyer for the store. The space was vacated by the end of November 2012 when Hershey's lease was up.

Now Segress, a book industry veteran who most recently served as book buyer for Eagle Harbor Books, and the de Jonges, long-time independent bookstore supporters, have teamed up to fill the old space with new stock, new energy, and new furniture. They have pulled together many familiar faces to welcome booklovers: former Queen Anne Books booksellers will be returning to continue serving the community.

The neighborhood has provided a warm welcome to the new bookstore. Within 36 hours of the creation of the Queen Anne Book Company facebook page, over 350 people had shown their support with a "like."

The owners and staff of Queen Anne Book Company started a countdown to the March 1 grand opening. A sign on the door and posts on facebook and twitter build the excitement to the big day. Future customers can also weigh in on decisions like which newspaper the store should carry through polls on the facebook page.

Grand opening details have yet to be released, but author events and a community celebration are in the works.
