The Quarrymen were inducted into the Merseybeat Hall of Fame last Sunday at Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton on the Wirral during this month's Merseybeat Story event, Eddie Miles of www.beatlesdaze.com tells us. Special guest for the ceremony was Colin Hanton, fresh from The Quarrymen's three-week tour of the U.S. Hanton was proud to accept the award on behalf of the band, Miles says.
Original Remo Four drummer Harry Prytherch and Jaywalker Dave Williams, both also members of Liverpool's Group One, surprised Colin after he was interviewed by Dave 'The Rave' Richardson and presented him with a framed certificate signifying the honor for the Quarrymen. Original Undertaker Geoff Nugent also played a great set to close the event, Miles reports.
Previous recipients include Merseybeat promoter Sam Leach, Faron of Faron's Flamingos and posthumous awards for Rory Storm Bob Wooler.
Other Merseybeaters in attendance were Nicky Crouch of the Mojos, Cliff Roberts of Cliff Roberts and the Rockers. Frieda Kelly, original secretary of the Beatles Fan Club, also attended.
The Merseybeat Story, held on the third Sunday of every month, features live performances by Merseybeat legends from the '60s, '60s tributes, discussions, question and answer sessions and archive videos.
