'Quantum Break' slips into 2015 as new footage teases full Gamescom reveal

Microsoft announced Thursday that Remedy Entertainment’s “Quantum Break” for the Xbox One will not make a 2014 release as so many have anticipated. However, Creative Director Sam Lake provided new story details along with a sneak peak at upcoming footage that will be released later this summer at Gamescome.

Quantum Break” will be released in 2015. The third-person game was never given a hard release window or specific date so the slip into next year is not particularly surprising.

In the accompanying video, Lake said, “"We are working hard to bring you an entertainment experience like no other. ‘Quantum break’ will be out in 2015. I’m very excited to tell you that we’ll be presenting ‘Quantum Break’s’ time-amplified action gameplay for the first time ever in August at Gamescom."

If that’s not clear enough, this confirms that Remedy Entertainment will not be showing anything related to “Quantum Break” during E3. Outside of “Halo,” Microsoft’s plans for its E3 press conference is a currently a complete mystery thanks to numerous recent reveals.

Lake also revealed some of the story details for the game and how it will integrate with the TV show that will launch alongside it. The game follows the hero, Jack Joyce, as he tries to stop the fracture in time that threatens to cause the end of all time. Meanwhile, the TV show follows the game’s villains, a corporation named Monarch Solutions.

The fracture is caused by a time travel experiment gone wrong at the fictional Riverport University set in the Northeastern United States. The experiment left Joyce with time bending abilities. Unfortunately, the experiment is also causing ripples in time that cause split second moments of destruction.

The game is meant to be a cinematic action experience from the creators of “Alan Wake” and the original “Max Payne.” The show tie-in is meant to give player’s insights into the enemy that can be used to come up with strategies to deal with them in game.
