The CrossFit Games have been growing every year since their inception at The Ranch in Aromas, California in 2007, and your chance to qualify starts this week.
The first CrossFit Games were contested by the 70 athletes who wanted to pit themselves against their peers. The first event was created randomly, from tasks drawn from a hopper – a “Fitness Lottery”. Since that time, CrossFit has grown as a fitness phenomenon, and as a sport, so a more regimented and planned platform had to be created.
As there have been for the last three years, there are two qualifying rounds to get to The Games, starting with The CrossFit Open, starting this Thursday, 2/27. The top competitors from the Open have the opportunity to go to the Regional Qualifier, and the best of the best qualify to compete in The CrossFit Games at The Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.
And the first step starts at home.
Most CrossFit gyms (or “boxes”) in Colorado will host The Open competitions, including 28 in the city of Denver itself, along with dozens more in the surrounding cities and suburbs. CrossFitters who belong to a box have probably heard details of the competition from the staff, and CrossFitters who workout at home or at another gym or rec center are welcome to join in the fun. Just go to the map and find an affiliate in your area that is hosting. Most boxes have just a nominal fee for guests to come join them for a workout, and CrossFit is a very welcoming family!
Sign up now to enter into the CrossFit Open. Whether you're a beginner, or you're ready to pit yourself against Rich Froning, the Games can be a fun time for all CrossFitters!
